AgarPhranicniStraze1

by AgarPhranicniStraze1 on 08 November 2007 - 03:11

My husband and I train every Sunday morning with a wonderful guy who's helped me tremendously.  He's a former k9 handler and has done SCH in the past but got away from it for mostly all the reasons many folks move on to other things.  My husband works my male Agar and he is training in personal protection.  I'm being introduced to a whole different style and type of training than what I am used to seeing people train at clubs.  I have much respect for the sport but quite honestly I more fascinated with the more "real" type training.  I've been working my 7 month old pup out of Agar's litter and he is showing much potential.  He's very easy to work with for me and responds well.  I am hoping to do some sport with him.  I also just bought a bitch and last week was the first time I took her out to do any training.  I didn't wanna push her too much since it's only been about 3 weeks since I've had her and she's a bit civil.  During the week I try to spend at least 20-30 minutes a day with training the dogs even if it's just obedience.  Now that the weather is getting crappy it tends to make me not want to spend as much time outside. lol  It's just something we enjoy doing with the dogs and watching their progress week to week is all the rewards I need.  The dogs love it, we love it and it's the best way to bond and build a special relationship with your dog.  Every week is something different so it keeps the interest and excitment up for both us and the dogs since we never know what to expect.  Tracking is my least favorite part and of course the bitch I got seems to love it the most, nose is always down and she is like on her own "high".  I love to see her energy.

I'm a dog trainer for a living, its my only job, and I do AKC obedience and schutzhund with my own dogs also. I don't give training advice online because I'd rather not argue method, it just makes my head hurt. =)

Thanks for including me in the "knowlegable group" I appreciate the compliment.

I'm still around. I have been pretty busy at work and just moved so my plate has been full.

I have been training but not nearly as much as I would like. I have spent the last 8-9 months putting foundation work on two young dogs. I hae big plans for my little pup and hopefully it will work out. I am not a Sch trainer and don't have nearly the knowlege in that area as many others do. I train mostly PSA, Ring Sport, and Police service.

I will always try and answer questions in areas I think I can provide decent input and help someone. I try not to get into the bashing fest, but there are a few I think shouldbe outed and can't help myself sometimes.

I agree that this board has lost alot of knowlegable people. My personal frustrations lie when you try to help and people want to argue or when people provide very poor information to people who are trying to learn. There are alot of "wannabee's" and "experts" that drive alot of people away. That combined with alot of bland or not interesting topics has somewhat kept me away.

Anyway. I am still here. Just reading more than posting. I am training my little one and hopefully we will acomplish the big plans I have for her. If anyone comes up with some good topics or are looking for training advise, I will try to post.

Thanks again for the compliment. Take care.

bump

quote from vonissk

"I first found the database about 3 yrs ago this coming spring--I came over here because my boy's parents are on here.  Then I started reading the posts.....the people that were here then made me feel (and I am not bashing anyone) like I knew nothing and I have been in the breed around 25 yrs. now.  The people here were so experienced and knowledgeable.  Now I feel my age with the breed.  The DB has changed so much and honestly I dislike it from what it was.  Too much bashing, too many wannabes and too much foo foo stuff going on."

I train, too.  AKC/pet ob instructor 4 nights per week.   Private lessons and dogs during the week, plus my own dogs.   Tracking 3-6 times during the week and Sch on the weekends with my own dogs. Just picked up my pup last Sat. from upstate NY.  Crazy long drive to get him and well worth it.  He's already living up to his name "Gator".

I'm still learning all I can.  I hope there will always be something new to learn fron the great trainers.
