This is my Stella pup that went to long island N.Y. to live, I was planning on
keeping her so I like to do daring things with MY pups, then I ended up
keeping her sister Bonnie instead, Oops!

Bonnie Von Ryan, can be seen on my web-site jumping in the Atlantic ocean
in February, just go to her page:www.vonryansgermanshepherds.com

Anyway, this is Stella at 7 weeks, they renamed her Gretchen.
They LOVE her to pieces!
Her Great-Great-Grandmother hated the water, all my dogs I have
now are just big fish!

The real test for Chaos would be to hand the leash to a human being,
tell him, it's ok now stay, and just walk away, don't look back (No matter how tempting!)

If he just looks in the direction you went, and doesn't bark or whine ( Or try to bite the person holding him!)
Then he's A. O. K. !

mirasmom we have done that several times.  In between games etc. and other places if I have him and have to run to the bathroom, I ask someone to hold his leash and they do.  I walk away and usually never look back.  I just tell him I'll be back and leave.  Most of the time he will just lay down and wait for me to get back, or so many people pay attention to him, he is totally fine with it.

THEN CHAOS IS VERY A.O.K.!!!!

Congradulations, if he has no separation anxiety issues, then
don't worry about him, and if he needs to respond to someone else
trying to get his attention, if it's for training, then they should offer him
treats or toys, my dogs may act fussy about certain treats, until
someone else  hands them out.

shepherdwoman...lol....boss does the same stuff, donno about swimming but if i go somewhere he cant go, he watches to whole time untill i come back...same with my kids....if he is not tied and they take to long, more than a few secs, he will go look for them....i think he mostly goes by sound  though, he can tell when they go to far by listening to their constant chatter.I know to get up a holler for the kids to come back, just by seeing what boss does....everytime im outside, sitting on the porch with him, his ears are up and listening for the kids....if he suddenly jumps up and take off their way, i know then they have left the yard...ill get up, go check, and sure enough-either they have stepped into the neighbors yard or they were sneaking into the edge of the woods...its nice having a extra pairs of eyes and ears on them!.personally i think that is a very good thing, these dogs are suppose to protect you and by watching you, he is doing his job.....

the other day, my couison and I took him for a walk down the road....at one point i gave her the leash and told her to go ahead with him, i had to tie my shoe or somethin...anyway, he went about 10 or 15 feet bfore he turned around and looked at me, the whole time he was walking with her he kept turning back to look at me, he didnt fight her or anything tho....at about 25-30 feet, he turned and sat on his butt , he didnt want to go any futher without me----now, is that a bad thing?
