Yikes     almost as bad as my neighbor had a grey poodle and it slept by their bed every night......We both had swimming pools and wooded lots in Texas City., and we often used our patio doors to go to the pool and then jump into tthe spa.....and of course, we would leave th door to the patio open sometimes, especially late at night when cool.....

My neighbor reached down about 5:30 in the morning, to make sure her poodle was by the bed, touched what she thought was Charlie,,,,,and turned over.....about 5 mins later Charlie was found to be under th covers on her husbands side of the bed..fast asleep....so what in the world had she just touched and felt by her bedside.....she turned on her night lite and in the corner of the bedroom was a grey nasty oppossum      I thought we would never hear the end of that horror....My neighbor wanted to sell her house and move to an apt...no more yard and trees and possumms  at the back door.....Her husband was known to feed them  early in the mornings   when he got up to get paper and he also left doors open when he went out...........they also love dog food and will frequent homes with dogs that leave dog food outside on their patio.....warning   .....turn a light on before you step out of bed and before you search in the dark......no tellling what you will pic up or step on......

YIKKeeessss....

eeeekkkk!!

I hate those things!   My Nessa caught a baby one once in the yard, it was dark and I couldn't get the motion sensor to work fast enough to see what she had in her mouth.  Once she spit it out, apparently it already knew how to play dead.  I lifted it up by its tail to see if it was still alive and the little sucker blinks at me.  Hence it was still alive.

My germans use to sit under the high line wires in Tc and wait for one to fall off as they would travel over the tree limbs from yard to yard on the high line wires and quite often fall.......I use to find possum parts all over every where.......no sweet potaoes to serve with it.....

One other time they had one trapped under the car, fortunately they couldn't get at it.  And since then we haven't had any in the yard really.  Maybe word is out.  We've got city skunk, possum, and raccoons.  Plus feral cats, so I'm surprised that we don't get more in our yard, though I think that the vinyl fencing really helps!

Trying to teach 3 week old pups to drink from a bottle at 11 pm when I have to be up for work at 4 am is no kind of fun!

Xena is in the hosp. She is hooked up to IV and he poured 2 bottles of activated charcoal in her as well as an IV bag full blast, Shots to make sure her kidneys keep flushing and another shot to give her diarhea to help move the rasins thru her system. She had a bowel movement while we were waiting for him and it was almost pure raisins. We estimate she ate a full 2 cups of raisins. Another thing we discovered is.... My son noticed at 10 am when I was in taking a shower and getting ready to go that Xena had gotten the raisins after I went to shower and ate the whole thing( 2 cups), he saw her eating them but did not know it was a bad thing and let her go ahead. He didnt mention it to me because he didnt know. When I got out of the shower I went straight out the door, the raisin carton was between the back of the couch and the bar ( about a 4 ft walk way) I didnt notice it because I had already fed the squirells. When I came home I went straight to feed the squirells and thats when I saw the carton and freaked. He is so upset! He blames himself if anything happens to her.

They drew blood and he said it wasnt to bad but that it will be the next 24-48 hours that will be the most critical. We wont know anything for at least 24 hours. He will do another blood draw in 24 hours per the Poison control center, then another draw in 48 hours.

Rezcat, here are her draws........

ALKP 100 U/L , ALT 27 U/L, BUN 28 mg/dl,  Crea 1.5 mg/dl, Glu 109 mg/dl, TP 8.0 g/dl, HCT 45.9% , HGB 15.5 g/dl ,MCMH 33.8 g/dl, WBC  8.3 x 10 9th power ( cant do that on the pc)/l, GRANS 6.7 x 10 9th power/L, % GRANS 81%, NEUT 3.5 x 10 /9 L, EOS 3.2 L/M 1.6 X 10/9 L,

The next few days are going to be pure hell! I have 2- 7 days old baby squirells and 2-3 week old baby squirells that were brought into the shop yesterday, they had bulldozed some trees and the babies were in it, the person had no clue so I am hand feeding them, I have been unable to locate a wildlife rescue around here that can take them, I am going to be bottle feeding and introducing 8  pups to puppy food, Working 2 jobs and having to haul the whole kitandkaboodle with me.

He made sure to mention that the bill was going to range from 700-1100. OMG thats over 2 months bring home pay for me. The shop isnt making money yet, new business and all I am lucky to pay rent, Bus driving doesnt pay diddly squat, 500 a month

Sorry, I am rambling, I am stressed bigtime and trying to figure out how I am going to juggle everything. I really dont like taking the pups to the shop but I have no choice. I do not let clients dogs run loose, the only time they are in the grooming area is when they are on the table, they never touch the floor. The pups will be in the grooming area with me. I dont know how I am going to keep the fleas off of them, I get some really flea infested dogs in.

I REFUSE to consider the possibility that I might lose Xena, she is irreplacable. Already the house seems empy even with the other dogs, she is always at my side unles she is feeding her pups.

time to go feed the other 4 and get to bed. Wish me luck tomorrow

The puppies - at 3 weeks they should be able to eat "mush" - would be much easier than bottle-feeding.  Get puppy kibble, soak in water for a while, then squish it into a mush (add warm water, add milk formula if you have it, add Karo syrup or Nutrical) so that it is thick-soup consistancy.  Put it in a flat pan, frying pan would work or even a few flat plates.  Stick their noses into it so they get a taste, and usually they will start slurping.  MUCH easier than a bottle and at 3 weeks they should be ok on mush-food.

Yeah  Shandra dont worry about trying to feed them milk diet.....They dont need it....use what Molly said and use goats milk,,,,make mushy just keep sticking their little heads in the pie plates...I use pyrex pie plate,   shallow and pups can reach into them    and the I use a pyrex glass cake 13 x 8 after they learn to eat better and then they can all gather around......just feed them every 4 hours and they will be fine.....soak  the pupppy chow in the mild ahead of time with warm water, the karo and egg yolk,,,,throwing the white away.......doesnt digest......in a week you can withdraw so much milk.......Hope Zenz is ok    Her  Creat   level is good   thats the one you have to watch    if it starts rising  , thats worry time....Her BUN is still at a norm range  (27)

Lets hope it stays there....dont worry about paying the vet.....He will take what money you can give.him..., Im sure....Mine always did.....

Keep us posted,,,,,,the pups are in good hands  they will be fine.......My moms usually wean theirs by end of 4 weeks anyway,,,,,they wont suck a bottle   put milk you want them to drink in a bowl   a crock one.... use diaper wipes to clean them up since mom isnt there....

Thanks for the encouragement and advice :)
After making sure the pups has milk, ( I managed to get 3 oz's in each pup, some ate more) I put mush down for them and they pigged out!I think all of them did pretty well getting it all over each other but a good portion went in their bellies. That will make it so much easier :)

Vet was concerned about her BUN being slightly elevated but not worried unless it continued to climb.

Time to hit the floor running, Have a great day everyone :)

Shandra,

Sorry to hear about your dilemma.  Hope all will be alright with Xena.  I got tired hearing how much you are doing in a day and then with this on top of it.  I'm sure your vet will work with you regarding payments, most do.  Good luck in your new business and many prayers for a healthy Xena and puppies.  (Sounds like the mush for the pups will be a lot of help for you.)

This is what I love about the PDB.  There's a lot of experience at your fingertips; not to mention the shoulders to lean on.

Please keep us posted.
