I have working lines & go to the akc dog shows, mainly cause I show my Labrador Retrievers,
,the labs I see in the show ring have good bone,
and structure, they look improved upon, but the GSD's......... some seem to look crippled and anorexic, WHY IS THAT???
I took Theo to a show awhile back only to get a nice pic of him, that's mostly what I want, and it seems easy for me
cause, I enter him in bred by exhibitor, and everyone else has professional handlers, so we end up being the only
ones in BBE and then it's off to do obedience or anything else that's good for the dogs brain!
Once I went to a show with my female GSD Sam at Bayside Expo, it was a blizard, I put my truck into 4 wheel and off I went!
Sam was entered in 6-9 months puppy class, I walked in the ring, the judge came over and said " Now who do we have here"
I said "This is Sam" her eyes lit-up and she put her hands on Sam's back, and was feeling her, saying "Nice dog!" "Nice dog!"
It did go through my mind that at shows, females are bitches & males are dogs, but I went along, she was pleased with Sam.
She said, "Nice bone!"
She kept saying," puppy sweepstakes later, puppy sweepstakes!"
She then went from touching Sam's back, to reaching under to check for testicles, and then Oops!!!
I guess because of the blizard none of the male GSD's showed up, so Sam got to go in first, and with a name like Sam.............
Then it was like--Oh my! I kept asking, what about puppy sweepstakes?
I'll always remember that day, it was well worth the trip!!

I'm not sure what you are asking "What is up with all these dog's pedigrees. Are those pictures real?" My husband and I took over the kennel about 3 years ago after my mothers passing. She had produced some awesome dogs. Ch Capers Acres I'm a Bold Banker TC HIT and Ch Caper's Acres Janry's Peppermint Schnapps TC to name a couple. She had spent the last 8 years of her life in a wheelchair and really didn't have much to do with showing or breeding during that time. After my brother's fatal accident in 2002 mom stopped breeding and showing. She co-owned Darby-Dans Jade v Caper's Acres and with many thanks to Dan & Marilyn Smith Jade had her Championship soon after my mothers passing. Dan & Marilyn helped us get started 3 years ago. We are co-owners on Darby-Dans Dirty Dancer and owners of Darby-Dans Jade v Caper's Acres, Gringo, as well as two beautiful offspring from their Ch. stud (Emmitt) and Jade. We still have the older dogs that have retired from the breeding program and will spend the rest of their days here at Caper's Acres in the comfort they deserve. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have about our dogs pedigrees and always welcome visitors to our facility. We would love to here from past customers as we have stayed in touch with our present ones. We are members of the breeders' code of ethics, members of The GSD parent club and members of DVGSDC. We are proud and feel truly blessed to promote this magnificant breed. We are also grateful for the many new friendships we have aquired over the past few years.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Lorri for her warm welcome to PDB.

I think it is important to show all of the GSDs from the different "lines". They are all descended from the same foundation dogs and need to be included. Now, I will not say the same for the Shiloh "Shepherds" or the King "Shepherds" because to me they represent nothing more than a designer fad and a very serious departure from the dog described in the F.C.I. standard, so do not even try to debate this with me-my mind is closed about this topic! Now, before someone starts a pissing contest with me regarding the statement that I just made, be aware that I strongly feel (yes, just my opinion here) that the accepted standard of beauty and conformation practiced by both the A.K.C. and the S.V. merely skirts this standard rather than adhering to it 100%.
Case Statement: Often a dog needs to be registered here that has some "American Lines" integrated into its pedigree. The amount of information for many of these lines is spotty, as often the only sources of information are available from the A.K.C. or the G.S.D.C.A. and of course the former are available for a fee. I remember once in my short life that I needed to enter a stud male from the once famous Ben-Jo's kennel and there was nothing here to link the foundation for this male. After spending about $40.00 through the A.K.C. store for the purchase of research pedigrees I was able to connect this dog to his ancestors and complete the link all the way to S.V. 1.
All of these dogs are important, and their examples need to be shown here. If for no other reason, to be able to show a "newbie" (yes, me too) what are the differences in the various "lines" in order to make sense of some of the discussions here. The other day I was near a person who bred Bassett Hounds, and we were discussing dogs and dog breeding. When I mentioned "GSD breed lines" this person did not have a clue and rightfully so-they were not a GSD person. I made verbal descriptions of the differences and finally said that it was best determined ny looking at many pictures while having a copy of the F.C.I. standard in hand.
In closing the GSD is the GSD and cannot escape its foundation ancestors. All of the progeny need to be here to enrich and complete this database.
Best Regards,
Bob-O

It's my opinion that all should be welcome. And that all personal opinions be welcome. So, welcome Caper's Acres, and thank you for your nice post here.

Bob-O, of course comparing the GSD with the Shilohs and Kings is comparing apples with oranges. Although both breeds had their foundation in the GSD, other dogs have been mixed into the bloodline, so they are now separate breeds, even if they are still being back-crossed with AKC or SV registered GSD's. 'Nuff said!

This is a pedigreedatabase. Nothing else. How you use it is up to you. If you don't like what you see then don't buy it, breed it, own it. Simple as that.
They are not what I prefer but then again, mine may not be what you like.
Bob-O, great post as always.

Don't worry you'll skin will thicken up and you'll learn to just pick the teeth that are left behind out later.... :-)
BobO Yes as always Well Done !!! Goose YOU as well !!!! I agree with Mirasmom ahhh that fresh air !! :-)

by AgarPhranicniStraze1 on 12 November 2007 - 03:11
Perhaps the fresh air will follow if you leave the drama filled threads alone and move onto the more positive educational ones...if any even exist lately.

by Bob-O on 12 November 2007 - 04:11
AgarPhranicniStraze1 I agree that it would be nice to go at least one day on the pedigreedatabase without the bashing, both substanciated and unsubstanciated that happens here. I know that the garbage drama comes and goes, but usually centres around the same participants. Capersacres, welcome to the pedigreedatabase, and may your visits here become fruitful.
Regards,
Bob-O
