Armin recently evaluated my pup, I was completely satisfied with his evaluation and his brutal honesty.  I prefer it that way, just cut through the BS and give it to me straight!!  The entire club was very pleasant and welcomed me to their beautiful training field.  I will definately be going back to train with him.  He was very thorough with everyone's dog, he took the time to explain to everyone how well/poor their dog was doing.  I have no complaints at all about Armin, I had a great time there and look forward to going back.

Hi Shelley,

If you decide to go back please let me know and I will plan to be there!  You are on my (very short) list of people on this board that I would take great pleasure in meeting.

I don't know when I'll be able to get back down to VA. I am entered in the NE Reg. show in CT next weekend and the NASS in St. Louis in Oct. (Yes, with my GRAY WORKING DOGS!)

Hubby gets pretty ugly when I go anywhere overnight, so he might TRY to clip my wings for awhile, and economics always are a factor, but if I get a chance I'll be there ASAP. Maybe early Oct?

I really love it at Schutzhund Village. That place is like Schutzhund Disneyland IMO. If I could find a good place near there for my dogs, I would probably MOVE, just to be able to train there on a regular basis. I have no doubt several of my dogs would be able to compete at the national level with Armin doing their helper work and coaching me as a handler.

Mr. Winkler is a star! Via correspondance he solved a training problem that had mystified every trainer i had taken my dog to in my own country. He did not even see the dog, but understood the behaviour, its underlying psycology and possible causes. He prescribed me a training plan, and told me how he, as a helper, would work with this dog - this I communicated to my helper. He checked back with me to see how things were going. The dog everyone thought was not so great was, after all, really rather good...In short, Armin is a star.

I just wanted to post here, someone brought this thread to my attention..... I can not stand a coward. They are the lowest life form imo.

"Realman"???? You mean REAL COWARD.... If  you were there you should have grown a set and said something to Armin yourself.... but since you are a "real man"(if you are even a man) you go on a message board and spout off. It's always easier from the sidelines. You could not even wear Armin's ankle brace you coward. His trial sleeve has more dogs on it then you have seen in your life, including when your in your underware sitting in front of your TV snacking on bonbon's and watching animal planet.

Obviously you have no clue about helper work and how to put pressure on a dog to test it. That is exactly what Armin did; as well as Clark(front half helper). The protection scores can attest to that. Most importantly they did their work SAFE!

I give credit where credit is due...Armin & Clark impressed the hell out of me... We need more helpers out there like them including Doug Wendling and James Laney. These guys TEST the dogs.

As far has Armin being brutally honest..... I don't know about the word brutally..... He is just honest when asked for his opinion and that's what we need more in this world... people who are up front and will tell you the truth. But, in today's world you have to walk around with kid gloves on...God forbid you hurt someones feelings by telling them the truth... that is what Armin does. I hardly know the guy and I respect the hell out of him because he is not afraid to let a person know the truth. The man knows dogs inside and out.

So if you were there you know what I look like...Next time you see me, come up to me and we can talk like men. I will gladly call you a coward to your face.

Don,

Armin has passed the torch many times.... Armin has helped train several nationally certified trial helpers. The man knows helper work. He breaks it down into an art form. Anyone aspiring to become a trial helper should go see Armin, as well as Doug Wendling and James Laney.

Realman,

It's very unprofessional to slander someone in an open forum, especially someone well respected like Armin Winkler who has spent their lives training dogs and handlers.....I'm not sure of your age, but I have no doubt that Armin has sleeves older than you.....You should think twice before you slander someone who is truly a professional in what they do!  I train with him regularly, he is truly as good as it gets when it comes to training dogs and handlers!!!

Realman,

Just for the record, how many dogs have you handled and titled from the whelping box to SchH III?  How many dogs have you caught in championships?  How many in club trials?  How many teams have you coached from puppy to SchH III?  As a training helper how many dogs, of how many different breeds do you work every weekend, blazing heat or freezing cold?  How many national level helpers have you mentored?

Since we started our club in 2003, teams, representing 5 differents breeds, who train with Armin have earned somewhere around 40 new SchH and advanced tracking titles.  My pure show line GSD retired this year 9x SchH III, having competed at several regional and national events.  And there is no doubt that my dog's successes were entirely due to Armin's training, my dog's failures to his, and my, limited talents.

As Shelley, Molly, and others have written above, we have a beautiful training facility here in VA at which anyone who loves training dogs is welcome.  Handlers who came to learn, and enjoy dogsport, have accomplished a lot here.  Not everyone achieved all of his or her goals, but that is the nature of the activity.

So the answer to your question is, a lot of us think the world of Armin and his skills.

A number of years ago I resolved not to get involved in discussions on internet boards with people who seem to type more than they train.  I'm making an exception for my good friend, Armin, but don't expect me to waste my time debating.  It's time to go tracking.

Ron

Real???????

You wanted to give a strong talking to the person who's idea it was to put Armin in there?  You don't have to look any farther then me, it was my idea!

I will be at the USA Nationals in GA at the helper college you can stop by any time to talk to me!  Better yet, why don't you stop by the helper college and show all of us there what proper trial helper work looks like?

Why don't you educate all of us and tell us what it was that Armin did incorrectly?  But, make sure you are following the FCI trial helper rules and not making stuff up.
