If you keep your working dogs inside there is a tread mill that your dog can walk all the exercise he or she needs....Myah walks 2.5 miles every afternoon and by the end of the week she is ready for Saturdays training and Sundays tracking....of course, she is outside when the masters come home but during the day when they work she and the other germans are inside.....in their kennel...
The only germans on my property in the a/c are the baby pups and their mothers., never said my dogs were in a/c.
Ive never heard of any of the working dogs kept inside while their owner work, and then let outdoors, later, to ever have any medical problems, or stop them from their work.

HELP NEIGHBORS COMPLAINING......................................................
You are so rude
No one would want you for a neighbor...If I knew you called me a busy body...and with your "know it all " attitude back to everyone that posted to you,,,,my advice is move back to the country.........You sound just like a good " COUNTRY HICK"....GO WORK YOUR DOG AND GET RID OF YOUR FRUSTRATIONS AND QUIT TAKING IT OUT ON PEOPLE HERE.........PUT THE BARK COLLAR ON YOU........

Unfortunately you live in the CITY. Where there are close neighbors who may not like to be forced to listen to your dogs barking all day long. In the city there are probaly lots of things for your dogs to bark at - including the neighbor's little dog who runs the fence. Unfortunately little dogs barking are not as loud or annoying as two big dogs - and sounds like your little-dog neighbor brings her dog inside most of the time anyway. So your dogs are "outside dogs" and they "are barkers" or bark whenever they see something. In a city situation they are going to see and hear a lot of things. In a city there is probably noise ordinances out the whazoo - all your neighbors have to do is complain to the authorities then the question will become "what do I do with my dogs I can no longer keep here". You will need to somehow stop them from barking (bark collars that work, keeping them inside except when supervised), or move to the country. When you live in a city you must be conscious all the time of your neighbors - they have as much right to not having to listen to your dogs as you have to own dogs. You can lose your right to own dogs if they continue barking and your neighbors take action to protect their own rights.
You may consider bringing your dogs inside - dogs shouldn't be left outside all the time anyway - and hiring a pet sitter to come in mid-day and let them out for exercise and maybe a nice walk. No, leaving them in crates 10 hours/day while you are at work woudln't be acceptable either.

You mentioned moving back to the country. If that is an option, take it, the sooner the better. Otherwise invest in two bark collars and use them when you are not home. The three screaching kids on one side of us and the ATV's with their airhorns on the other make as much noise as our dogs. It's the dogs that would get called in for nusiance barking though. We lived here with dogs before those neighbors moved in and didn't have too many barking issues. (Take a wild guess what our dogs are barking at?)

thanks molly yes there is a noise ordanance but as stated before it only goes into effect at 10 pm. i've checked. also nothing will be done if it isn't after this time. this was a great time to have had a weeks vacation as well as this long weekend. i've been home a lot more than normal. i have listened to the dogs much more closely. the only time the dogs have went off has been when the neighbors little ankle biter has been out running the fence and barking. so the problem seems to be that the neighbor doesn't like their little lap dog barked at. sorry about their luck. if they are going to let their dog aggitate mine then they'll have to deal with the barking. i was also up until 1AM lastnight and not a peep out of mine. by the way i have 4 other neighbors that surround the property and they say they haven't had any problem. the lady to the left of me is a sweet older lady and the only one home all day and she says they are fine during the day. so no i'm not going to take any speacial measures with this problem as all it would take is this ONE neighbor to keep their dog from creating the problem they ALONE seem to have such an issue with. perhaps a little training and attention to what their dog is doing is in order. as far as i'm concerned this prblem is a non-issue. had even one other neighbor had a problem i would have tried everything mentioned including as a last resort crating the pup but when you have people complaining about a problem they allow their own dog to create i have no sympathy. so thanks to those who gave constructive posts. this matter is closed for me.
thanks

"yes there is a noise ordanance but as stated before it only goes into effect at 10 pm. i've checked."
Even with a start of 10 PM, there might be local laws about barking during other times and length of time. Just FYI....

i really hate doing this but here it goes. you haven't heard? AND??? talk to any vet or person who's trained dogs or even humans, for any endurance title. for that matter on a hot day stay in the A/C yourself all day then go out and try to run any distance and see how well you fair. then go back in the A/C and see how well your breathing is. not a good idea. it robs the stamina and as stated before taking a dog that has done endurance training and placing him back in the cold A/C will cause fluid build up in the lungs. don't wait to hear. do some research. and no a treadmill indoors in the A/C won't do the trick. for one this is a lazy mans out. the enurance titles aren't held in the A/C they are held outside on real terrain. and keeping your training as colse to the actual event is always the best way to go.

thanks sue but with having all this time home i can now almost set my watch to when the dogs will bark it always coincides with when the neighbor lets out their dog unattended. it stops when they take him in or he tires and stops his barking and running the fence line. so as stated it isn't like they are barking at the air for a long time or the rest of the neighbors would have a problem as well. thanks

Most people that had germans inside a/c homes all day , work their dogs in the evenings, take them to lakes, gulf coast beaches, and they track on Sun morn and have club meetind two times a week , and never hurts any of these peoples dogs....no dog stays inside all the time.
Most atheletes live in ac every day of their lives...Michael Vick doesnt live in a barn...he is ac , trains in a gym that is airconditioned.
The Williams girls play tennis , and are two top contenders...They live in a/c everyday, but they train in gyms and do their outside work also...no hurt their..
All the tri athalons live in ac homes all day everyday....but they train and train and do it in ac gyms and on outdoor tracts...they go home to air condition ,,,They fly to world events in ac they drive motor homes accross USA in air condition...
THe dogs in Schutzhund trials fly on airplanes,,,stay in motels in the a/c room Molly and Kandi stay in ac hotels when they trial .....and most of the rest of the people have motor homes and ac motel and hotel rooms with their dogs inside with them...
Keeping a dog inside in ac doesnt have a thing to do with endurance training.....you train your dog just like always,he or she is outside for several hours and on the field and a high prey , good candidate will be on top of the world and go right on.....never wavering...if it is a sick dog and has lung problems , it shouldnt be training for schutzhund in the first place...
Also ,many people use the treadmill for their high prey, dogs and pups...it is a way to give the dog an out of her extreme drive and builds muscle and is not any way a lazy mans way out....these dogs have training every week, go to ocean ,swim and are outside every morning and every everning for several hours.....its a very good means of spending time with your dog, on the treadmill ,and they love it......these are gsds from Kapbrush and Ortskern lines and need extra things to do....agility bars and work is also done to keep her busy.....not any one lazy in these house holds....
Its like training an athlete in an ac gym where else do they train...sure they train with their teams on the fields for hours.....but they go home to an ac house and a family that lives and works in ac....Most dog trainers work in an ac office of building all day also.....and they run on their treadmills at night or on their lunch hours in air condition....and then they run or jog in the mornings on trails in woods or their neighborhoods...doesnt have a thing to do with not being healthy.....air conditioned homes are usually kept at 79 * anyway ,,,,just comfortible not cold....

obviously you have no idea how an athlete trains. a true athlete (one who makes his living from sports, even college) never trains in A/C. obviously you were never into sports. go to a gym athletes or bodybuilders use. NOT your local suburban housewife gym. a REAL gym. it is NEVER cool or cold. it is always warm. my college coaches and trainers were always bumping up the heat in our workout room. "cold muscles=injury" and keeps the blood from flowing as freely. and they never allowed us to run the track outside and run right into the A/C. you never see an athlete run right into the A/C. after he competes he makes sure his temp comes down slowly. even covering up with towels or robs and brings his core temp down slowly. have you ever seen someone (regular guy) out playing a pick up game in the heat and then run right into the A/C to "COOL OFF"? what happens? he generally starts coughing. why is that? it's not because he has "LUNG PROBLEMS" like you stated it's because he screwed up. a professional would have never done that. if you are going to put them in the A/C you must wait until their core temp has totally cooled down or YES there will be ill effects. .
i never mentioned training for shutzhund. i said an endurance trial. endurance trials and shutzhund are very different. the physical training or "putting air into your dog" is totally different than schutzhund. although both require endurance, endurance trials are very taxing on the body and require much more endurance. you talk about CLUB MEETINGS so do you know any national or international competitors? maybe you should talk to them and see how they train. i'm lucky enough to have a good friend in these dogs that knows Ivan Balabanov. they are from the same valley in Bulgaria. so i've been able to get some advice from him directly. maybe you should tell him it's OK to train his dogs in the A/C since he never does. maybe with all your knowledge on sports medicine you can help him finally get on the podium......... oh wait he's already been their ONCE OR TWICE. so unless you can show me any new studies that state it's good to train in the A/C (you can't because there are none) or you can show me half as many trophies as Ivan has (you can't there either) i don't think i'll worry about you as your dogs will never compete at anything other than local trials.
so yes you can live and have your dogs in the A/C but you have to make sure that they have a lot of time to cool down and NEVER train them in the A/C unless they are going to compete in the A/C. for the life of me i can't ever remember hearing of any trial in the A/C.
"air conditioned homes are usually kept at 79 * anyway ,,,,just comfortible not cold".... i see your an authority on A/C as well. funny no one around here in the summertime sets their air that high. but you know it all.
