So, from this thread, can we safely say that the dam actually contributes significantly more that the sire?

Spent more than my share of time smoking lunch out in the parking lot LOL. Come to think of it learned more about biology there than in the classroom too!

I think the reason you see so much emphasis placed on the stud is because they tend to be more prolific and while they might not have a huge effect on the single little they may effect the breeding population in a much more profound way...and because you tend to have more offspinrg out of a stud than a bitch it is a little easier to judge their performance....you see in the same thing in any kind of stock...from cows to horses to dogs.

When I am looking for a pup; a breeder which is picky about their females gets my attention and I don't buy from someone who does not have strong females. Fact is if looking on a website I go look at their females first because many breeders that have good females use an outside males anyway. Plus it tells me they are serious breeders
