Cut out the kibble. It detracts from the nutritional profile and fills him up with undigestible bulk. Whole raw meats are generally self regulating. Most dogs will consume as much as they need in a short time. You may need to vary his feed to prevent boredom. I buy 60-80 lbs a week. For the first 3 days I feed the new meat fresh, then freeze it and feed the previous weeks "specialty" for 3-4 days. Once a week I buy 10 lbs of chicken quarters. I base quantity on condition and appetite. When I can't feel ribs I cut the ration. Best Wishes, Jonah

agree with 4pack,
If mine get picky, tough luck. When they are not happy with what they get then they get nothing better until they eat what is put out for them. I do not pamper a dog unless it's a medical issue. If you let them they will want prime rib medium rare with all fat trimmed. I do not always suppliment with raw meat, so when I don't they go on strike. Then I let them know that they will probably need to fast for awhile cause it won't get any better. After awhile they say, hey dad is not going to give in so we might as well eat what we get.
I would feed twice a day if they would eat twice a day. Personally I think this is a better way but I won't pamper them so they just eat once a day.

It took a 1 year bitch I sold exactly 4 days to teach her new owners that they should cook her pot roast for dinner each nght. :)) Needless to say we had a conversation about boundaries.
Her nephew had a very atavistic eating habit for most of his life. He would eat a normal size meal and then not eat at all for 3-4 days. We also operate on the 10 minute rule in my house. Lived hale and hearty til 14 and was a very active stockdog. In later life he did change to eating once a day.
Sugar - 28 inches at a year and a half??? Are you sure - ye gads have you been including steroids in the foods he gets? Keep in mind in GSD bigger is not better - more stress on the body and less agility.

VFKGSD LOL, you guys are too much :).
VFK - yes, I'm sure, he's 28-28.5 in. at the withers; he's not the result of my breeding. We got him at 7 weeks old, there was no way to know. Sire is solid, but more like 26 in. I do worry about his joints, but he has always been very lean.
