OK, so geese supposedly get sad. Knowing the political structure of Uni, I really doubt that anyone even noticed he was publishing. What devotion and sacrifice are you talking about???
We condition the little bastards to what we want the moment we get them. Ever seen dogs in places like Mexico?? I really doubt you would be seeing devotion or sacrifice out of them.
So again, what sacrifice?? What are they giving up to be with us, and are you sure they are giving it up, or just well contained???

Jeff, you obviously didn't read the article. The author was not talking about devotion to humans, but THIS:
In The Pig Who Sang To The Moon, Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson writes about a goose who had a broken wing. During the fall migration, as other geese flew south, her gander accompanied her by air and by foot. She was going to walk south since she was unable to fly. He would not leave her, so after flying for a few hundred yards, he would stop and wait for her to catch up. He would call to her with his wildest, most piercing cry, urging her to spread her wings and fly with him to their distant home. He accompanied her until she was killed by carrion eagles and he had to continue his journey alone.

OK, 2 more cents worth. First let me begin by saying..I worked a live find dog at the word trade center on 911. This dog had been exposed to cadaver. but NOT certified. Secondly, I now have a LE certified cadaver dog.and work a certified live find disaster dog
Fact: 911 dogs (those certified live find) became stressed because we were (humans).
The dogs are looking for the thing /person) that brings them their utimate reward, be it ball , food whatever. Many handers failed to set up senerios to give their dogs the chance to win. Not blaming handlers. the scene there was tough enough for all.
Live find dogs (urban and widerness) uness specificaly trained to be scent specific generaize human scent. In other words. We al smel the same but a bit different. A dog trained to find a specific person is scent specific. Remember, when a major disaster occurs we do not know who is buried so how would be have an item of theirs. Many sar dogs are scent generaists.
A well trained sar dog is proofed off of pee, poop, and animal remains. Just look at the sar dogs used to search for remains in a land fill. Can you imagine how many diapers etc there are in the dump,, A well trained cadaver dog is taught not to eat the stuff. Remember in most cases this will be a crime scene. The utimate for them is their reward!!!!!
My dogs only see the ball when they earn it for a find!! they have other toys available to them but the special toy comes out for work. And they love to work. Not pointing fingures but there are aot of foks out there who claim their dogs are sar dogs but lets see their certs. Remember, it is not about you or the dog..it's about the victim.
Do I believe dogs can be sad. Yes, and I also know that some dogs of any breed can have an aversion to cadaver. It is not just stinky stuff.
