Yellowrose, no I didn't. But I don't like pedigree dog food. I have been using Royal Canin GSD 24 Maxi for a time and have good results so far. I understood it was a French company. What do you recommend for a good dog food for GSDs?

Mars is the parent co of Royal Canin Gsd I was in petsmart a month ago and a sales rep for a drug co and I got into a discussion on dog foods.....she told me that the same co that made Pedigree made Royan Canin.....so she wasnt interested in using it....My mouth fell open and I shut it before putting a foot in...and went home and the next morning,,,,as I havae the Royal Canin Puppy sack here and I called them and they confirmed that yes Mars does own Pedigree and make it ...
They also own Royal Canin but in no way have anything to do with the ingredients that go in Royal Canin......Mars is the parent co......they are made in seperate buildings and do not dictate to ROYAL CANIN....
If you believe that okay ...... Nestles owns Purina Purina makes EXCEED.......AND LOTS OF OTHER NAMES ...
The company that got in hot water with the China scare and the wheat ,,<Menue foods ????? produces a lot of the dog foods on the market with names that do not show they produce them....

EXCEED is not made by PURINA.. It is made by DOANES PRODUCT CO... or Doane pet care. You really should know what you are atlking about before telling the whole world something not true.

When are people going to learn yellowrose knows exactly what she is talking about. All of my research backs up what she is saying.
As for a good low cost kibble. I don't know if it exists. Somebody on this forum must know?
As far as Exceed goes it is total Garbage. I wouldn't food it to my worst enemy much less my trusted companion my GSD!!!

At Sams Club, you are in the wrong isles. Grab one of those 50"x50" dog beds for 19.00 dollars, then go over to the pharmacy area and pick up that bag of 100% Whey Protein Powder for 28.00 a bag. Then get the hell out of there and go over to Petco and join their 200 pound club. Buy 200 lbs and get a good discount AND 1 free bag for every 10 bags that you buy. I have been using Eukanuba Sporting for over 15 years. It used to be called Premium Performance.
Here's the best thing that you can do for your ACTIVE dog. 1 &1/2 cup of kibble, 1 scoop of whey protein powder, 3/4 of a pound of raw ground beef. Soak the kibble in hot water for 20 minutes, then add the whey protein powder, then mix in the raw ground beef. Remember, "you get what you pay for". $1.59 a pound =FAT, $2.00 a pound =Protein. Once a week I add cod liver oil, and vanilla yogurt. I get my raw beef from a small local slaughter house.
This is a recipe to success. Pre-soak kibble to avoid bloat. For anyone interested in ordering a special treat for your best friend.............I get these special bones smoked. They consist of kneecaps and achilles tendons. The dogs love them and they are very digestable. My dogs get them once a week. Anyone interested in ordering these bones, I ship them 6 to a package. Two dollars a bone plus shipping. That's six yummy treats that will last 6 weeks for a cost of about 20.00. Shipping is about 5-7 dollars. If you are interested in these bones, email me directly.

Eukanuba is Garbage also it is now owned by Proctor and Ganble maybe 15 years ago it was a good food but now days it leaves a lot to be desired. They were involved in last years recall.
Whey protein power. I can't give an answer on that never heard of that before I'll have to research that a bit. I give my GSD Power Chow 2 for an added boost of energy before a heavy work out. Maybe the yellowrose knows something about Whey protein powder!!!

Whey protein powder is used by body builders. My observations over the years of GSD's in Schutzhund is that most injuries are spine and neck related. One of the most common injuries is to the spine when coming off the A-wall incorrectly. I, myself, suffer from spinal injuries. I decided some time ago that the GSD needs to have a strong muscular system in order to support the skeletal system. The more musculary fit the dogs are, the less prone to skeletal injury. I swim my dogs almost everyday and run them with an ATV. Schutzhund dogs are atheletes in the purest form. They need to be warmed up no different than a human before an exhaustive workout.

Top performance canine athletes have been fed whey protein along with their post work out drink for years.aye! Fast absorption via digestion, be o' paramount importance at this stage. So a liquid or powdered form o' protein derived from hydrolyzed whey be t' best logical supplement.aye Whey in powder or liquid form takes an average o' 20 minutes to absorb, makin' this form o' protein number one in t' race for assimilation. "Post Workout t' canine and human body be in a highly catabolic state. It will soak up anythin' you give it. Remember you only have 30 minutes Post Work Out t' get t' nutrients into your canine or yourself. Dont forget you need t' Dextrose or Maltodextrin or both as a transport. Only t' dextrose-maltodextrin will replenish t' valuable muscle glycogen. Fructose replenishes liver glycogen. "if ye use Vertex or one o' its competitors, ye can add some whey immediately after t' canines workout.aye These products already contain t' maltodextrin transport" Aye!if ye want t' give ye canine extra protein at different times, or before bedtime, then a good casein protein would be t' route t' go Aye!"
