Thats a good remembrance of a fine sportsman...condolences

Al's wife Marcia put the first RH1 title on her Airdale.......in the US when it was new here.....

I think since then a lot of AIrdales have been encouraged to enter the sport....

Had two pit terriers,,,,Straffordshires  in Houston years ago got to SchH 2 , one of which was kicked out ....he broke the long down stay off leash and attacked the other dog in performance of the obedience.

A trainer in one of the other clubs down South, has titled two or three Stafforshires with  SChH 3

When I visited Leipzig, I was amazed to see how many good Airedales are doing Schutzhund in eastern Germany,  nobody works them in UK and they are uncommon dogs even in the show ring.

During the war, the Germans obviously had their GSD military dogs and the English had Airedales.  Can you imagine the Tommys seeing their GSDs and thinking they were some sort of Superdog and all the while, the Germans must have been looking at our Airedales and thinking the same!

Pity the UK Airedale breeders did not utilise the breed as well as they deserve.

Claudia Mc: Was the Airedale you referenced Nicholas v Argonaut? Great dog!! He was VERY impressive at the 94 North American: happy, upbeat OB and protection to put some gsds to shame. I was able to check out his pedigree and was amazed to see that, if you didn't know it was not a gsd, you would have assumed it was- only better,as I recall most of the BITCHES in his pedigree were Sch 3, too!!

I do SchH with my ACDs ;-)  Here is my old guy last year who was/is retired now but still has fun on the field occasionally.  He got his SchH A but due to injuries incured in weight pulling and being older when I started him, I retired him after the A even though he was trained to at least the II in both obedience and protection - I had a hard time getting motivated at tracking with him :-p  I am now working his nephew in the sport.

There is at least one other person working an ACD in the sport and she is hoping to go for her SchH I this winter.  I have always loved that video of Mr. Murphy and was saddened when I heard of his passing.
