Hey Jeff .... hope you know I am on your side!
I thouroughly agree there are laws and LE are suppose to enforce them BUT I remember a time when little things like lights out or 5mph over got you a warning. They can do that also.
Why doesn't the public have a right to "vote" on laws? Maybe the majority do not want them. Is it just because we voted in the politicians? There is usually a big choice "bad and badder"! It is ridiculous if you read the codes and statutes. For almost every law there is a loophole or statute to fight it. But if you want to go that route it will cost you dearly to prove you are right! Also most LEO are immune to them because they are in the "good old boy" club. Then when something makes headlines, they investigate themselves. It doesn't make sense.
I also do not mean "all" LEO are bad. I know alot of you guys are A-OK! But c'mon this doesn't seem right, an 11 year old dog barks in its house and gets shot, I won't even go backwards but I didn't think the last big thread we had was right either. I also understand this is one side of the story, I hope we will hear of a follow up on it, like an interview with the PO. I bet that won't happen though...

I gotta tell ya that I'm having a hard time believing that this guy got hauled off to the pokey for playing loud music and his dog got shot from must barking. I know there is some real assholes out there (civillians and officers too) but I just can't see this scenario taking place as it were described by the originator of this thread. We can make an educated guess that more than likely what happend is the guy was playing loud music, a neighbor got annyoed and called the cops to get the guy to turn his music down, cop knocks at the door, dog barks, maybe the owner got belligerant and the dog saw this as a threat and showed some sort of agression and perhaps the owner was resisting an arrest for something other than "loud music" and then things just got bad from that point on for both the dog and the owner. This makes far more sense to me.
But I'm not the judge or the jury just giving my educated guess and opinion.

You know maybe when he opened the door, the cop shot the barking dog - which staggered into the kitchen..the owner tried to check on his dog but the cop did not let him - maybe he was "handcuffed and hauled off" because he got emotional and upset about this JERK shooting his dog, so in return the JERK arrests the dog owner and leaves the dog for animal control to take care of, the owner doesn't see his dog for hours later... YES, if a cop just shoots my GSD as I open the door, then stops me from checking on my dog, he would have a "problem" with me too...

aghastallions- your scenario is possible also. We'll never know what really happend just like in the Max situation recently, but the dog is alive and from what I got from the post he will be alright. Wonder who was paying the vet bill in this situation??

by aqhastallions on 31 July 2007 - 01:07
I bet the dog owner had to pay the vet bill.... hopefully the dog is OK but it would be a difficult situation for a 11 year old GSD to go through. Shame that it is the LED that "investigates" themselves.... Hope the department ends up paying vet bills and resitution... That dog deserves a milk bone!

Quote: We live in a country that has laws and no matter now stupid we think they are, we still have to obey them or pay the price.
At some point, you need to remember that our ancestors here left their home country and started this nation because of all the laws that were getting rediculous.
AND if I remember right, we are supposed to be a government bor the people, by the people. If they are that stupid, we need to change them and tell them to stop getting so carried away.
Here in Denver, they put the smoking ban to a vote, and it was voted down, so they attached it to another bill that the people don't get to vote on, and passed it anyway.
This is the United States of America isn't it??? To me, this is a major violation of my rights as a citizen. It is not the government that gets to decide what is best for me, but ME, I get to decide. People freak about smoking, but then drive 400 yards to the convienence store. Like car emissions are so good for us.

Jeff,
Why do you think you have the right to blow your smelley ass smoke in my face.
Smokers are the most inconsiderate beings on this planet.
you can blow all you want in your yard and your house but NOT in my space Mister.
Glad to hear it passed.
by Jeff Oehlsen on 31 July 2007 - 03:07
See the point you missed??? No, probably not.
See how you assume that I would blow smoke in your face?? WTF would make you think that???
And finally, how are we the most inconsiderate beings on the planet??

Debbie,
Perhaps you could actually "make" a point. So far you have failed to do so. I went out of my way to point out that it could have been the owner's fault. I have not shown any "bitterness" or "hate" to any LEO. I did address your mindless chant of LEOs put their lives on the line every day blah blah, blah. I'm not more bitter about that than I am with any other robotron that tells their kid that sitting too close to the tv will make you go blind. Old wives tales are old wives tales. LEO is a safer job than at least ten other occupations. Refer to any occupational fatality study including the one I referenced above. Here's another:
money.msn.com -"The third most common cause of death on the job in 2000 was homicide, which claimed 677 workers. Fifty cops were murdered. But so were 205 salespeople. Falls were the second most common cause of death, accounting for 12% of the total. Not surprisingly, roofers and structural metal workers were the most likely to meet this fate. "
So if it was the Fuller Brush salesman in the same position would you fault him for shooting the dog?
I'm not saying LE doesn't do a job. I'm not saying their job isn't necessary of even appreciated. I just get tired of hearing the mindless drones talk about how dangerous it is for LE. Now that I think about it, I didn't address any LEOs at all. Just you.
