My parents were from Illinois My dad graduated from shurtleff College in Alton , Illinois and Mom was born in Woodriver, and they lived in alton till he was transferred by Pan Am. back then, to Texas City,Tex for helping with the chemical plant there He was blown to bits in an explosion in 42 as pump house supervisor and save the plant from the ship backflash in the harbour not the tTexas City explosion that was a few years after he was killed..My mother did not even know she was pregnant with me , got sick and they thought she was really in trouble from his death, but it was me making the trouble.....when I was 12 ,my mom took me to Illinois to see my 91 years old granny, who lived accross the street on College ave. from Shurtleff college....The only time I ever went back was on the way to Rich Ford and Larry Filos years back to get another gsd after Zu died that they sold me out of Cadette V Busecker Schloss and Zilla Wierturchen....I didnt buy anything as Rick Ford was actually out of the dog business but I still wanted to meet him for selling me the fabluous ZU.

Bullet: I just remember how I knew so much about you ...It kept eating at me so I pulled out the Schutz magazines and Waaaalaaa.........
vol.30 n0.4 Jul/Aug 2005 a wonderful article about how you and your wife met........and a pic of your dog Bullet where your code name came from...... My book was earmarked .so It wasnt hard to find it......laughingly my friends had chided me after reading the couples corner , that maybe some day I would find a man that loved the gsd like I do, and could put up with me and all that I do for my dogs, cause only a man after the breed love, could be a partner .......
Oh what great Dedication you and Marcia have for the Sport......and years of it......Thanks

It is nice you remembered the article. Doing SchH with Marcia, my club, & all the good friends I've made over the years has been very rewarding. After a real stressfull work week, I alway look forward to Saturday training, even if I have to work in the afternoon. Working today for example, I was able to have fun with my young dogs, & help out a few of my friends with their youngsters as well.
Thanks,
Al

Yes, our dogs are our salvation, at least a part of it, not taking away from our Maker....I live for the Schutzhund magazine to read about people I know and people I dont know., and articles and it has been a journey that I will alway remember and without the foundation I received, for many years, I would not be doing what I am now...I have 3 vertebrae that are detereating and so I left the training part back years ago and took my shepherds that Larry Filo and Ford sold me and decided to breed from that union and added Gal co sheriff k9 , Orthos grrson to the breeding and then added n Enclavehof boy... I was glad to see Marcia , trained another breed, other than the gsd , and Rotty, as we from time to time had an airdale, and a Staffordshire terrior that made Sch 2 and then broke one day and attacked another dog, off leash ,so he was dismissed from Schutz......
Interesting enough to see others attain the titles, usuallly taking a lot longer to train, though......There are a lot of wonderful people in the ranks of Schutzhund that offer so much of what we all learn
Thanks again for a wonderful example....

We just spent a great week with SV judge Heiko Grube, SV Press Secretary and his club helper Joachim Niemeyer and had a chance to discuss the merits of the RH.
He was telling us this is becoming very popular in Germany. It also helps when asking property owners for permission to use their land for events. People are willing to let you use their property for a Search and Rescue event which can also include Schutzhund and it is a way to help with public relations for our sport.
Passing the RH is not a qualification for the breed survey. A dog must have still passed the SchH1 or HGH. It is a internationally recognized title of Search and Rescue.

Not to condem or praise..I hope the general public understands the difference between a title and a certifcations. Would you want someone looking for your kid because they had an RH? Perception
At the World Trade Center, during 911 we had many good meaning people show up with their house pets offering to help because there dogs could find them.
just my 2 cents worth

Sarah, I would certainly want somebody certified like you and your dog looking for a lost person versus a dog with an RH, no doubt. I am glad to see this type of activity getting more acknowledgment though.

I don't know if I recieved mis-information or not. I have read at an information site, and I also heard from someone I thought was knowledgable, who is from Germany, that the RH2, along with SchH and Herding title, would qualify a dog for the breed survey, though it was not generally known, and it takes a special judge.
I do not think most people expect an RH dog to go out and do SAR without cross training. Like most things that we do as a sport, it is a measurable event to which you can assign points.
