Altostland posted that it is a rarething to see a solid black GSD with super bones,I think we share
the same observation, why is that? .....But of course there are large solid blacks...CHULIGAN ,TITUS ,CAK to name a few.

During the Rin Tin Tin era the lighter color with silver was preferred. i believe Rin Tin Tin was actually a light sable..I need to double check that though.
while color is one of my last criteria it is important to have good pigment no matter the color.
i do agree black sables look awesome though.. breeding for one popular trait such as color can ruin a line real fast....

I just like GSD's, what's on the outside is secondary. We are in the market for another within the next six months and have been looking at black sables, they sure are pretty!! That being said, in a perfect world I prefer the solid black or black sable first, black and tan or black and red second and I like light sable third. And I have...drum roll please... a black and tan! I just prefer the not so ordinary. So far the only thing that really stands out is his mostly black face, I'm hoping he keeps it but at 6 months you just never know!

This is Steve Lino's solid black DDR male. I didn't care much for the solid black GSD until I met Durbas. He has that big blocky head and big solid bone.

I know most don't like a blue German Shepherd, now go easy on me, beside his color, what else do you see wrong here? Blue Jaga is the Grandson of Flex V Blauen Modeneser(Germany-DDR), Pirol von Arminius and Eros V Witzmannsberg, and he has some other great names in his pedigree. His father is solid black. He really is a great dog.

During the Rin Tin Tin era the lighter color with silver was preferred. i believe Rin Tin Tin was actually a light sable..I need to double check that though.
The very first Rin Tin Tin was a dark grey sable. Many of his successors have been grey sables, but the one in the 50/s TV show was silver and black. I believe that's because the color showed up better on black and white T.V. The Littlest Hobo dogs were also bred selectively for this color, though Chuck's first dog, the original London, was black and tan.
The colours seem to have become more washed out over the years, especially since they introduced a white shepherd to the line. I think it was the only way they could find an outcross that hadn't been ruined by being bred for extreme angulation.
