Larydee,
Read the report and man that should scare the crap ouut of anyone who thinks they are doing their dogs right by feeding what would seem to be "premium quality" dog foods... Now its whats can do the least amount of harm rather than what can do the best for the dogs, thats crazy...Guess its the "lesser of, or many other evils"...???Kinda like Repubs vs Dems, no real winners...
I use Chicken soup and think its still better than most but now know unless you feed raw/suplimented its a crap shoot regardless of whats been said by the manufactuers...The lesser of 2 evils, my G-d
Chicken soup is made by Diamond Petfoods and as far as i know has not had a problem with the products I use...Check out thye site at chicken soup for the dog lovers soul.com and see what thay say and go from there...I now know after reading the "report" that feeding dry premium dog foods may not be the solution let alone the final word on food...Sad, so sad that its come to this...
I do what I do and never claim to be the final word on anything, everyone makes their own choices and then deals with them...I'm almost sorry I read the report which can be found at api4animals.org thanks to Larrydee...
Still using Chicken soup whichj is not that hard to find in fl, go to the site where they have a store locator...
Its all good...Or is it...???

The article had some interesting information and was a good read, once I found it. HOWEVER!!!!! Be careful about this site, it's an animal rightest site all the way. You know, the type of people that ultimatley want to ban all pet ownership. Take what you read with a grain of salt.

If that report was false you better believe that the pet food manufactures would put one huge law suit against them. But that hasn't happened. In this case ignorance is not bliss.
This report is a stick of dynamite. As I said before you owe it to your dogs to read this report and make up your own mind.

Said nothing about the report being false, it was interesting and worth reading.
Just a heads up on what the web site reallly is. Just beware of the animal rightests out there. They want to do away with any and all pet and animal ownership. And will stop at nothing to acheive their goals.
All for the sake of the animals of course......

I take everyrthing I read here and on the "net" with more than a grain of salt and for the most part follow what I consider to be my own good common sense...After reading the article Larrydee (I do not know you nor have I seen much ot you here) mentioned it does make me wonder what they hell is going on with the "pet food industry" in general...For me I feed a grain free, no additive what I consider to be a "premium" dog food with no corn additives and will continue to until I can find something better or of at least equal quality...I just might begin supplimenting with "raw" from time to time and have been throwing in chicken necks and backs from time to time anyway...
For me my dogs come first and foremost, its never about money or how far I have to travel (easy for me to say that as I can get whatever I want within no more than a 1/2 hrs ride) for food which for me is about a 1/2 hr ride or less whenever the need arrises...As I always say: "to each their own..."As bad as the "premuim" dog foods are (according to that report I just read) they still are so much better then the corn filled commercial grades available at most grocerey stores we shop in for our foods...For me its not about convenience, its about the best I can do for my dogs...Call me crazy thats fine but my GSDs always get what I feel is the best of everything or why have such a noble beautiful breed in the first place...I am not knocking any other breeds but my heart is in the GSD for sure, for life...We are showline not working and I have no problem saying that...Lots of what our breeder breeds wind up as K9 Police or S/R dogs anyway...Our breeder is world class and has some gorgeous dogs avaiulable throughout the year...
Have a great day and Happy Fathers day to all the Dads out there...

Rob: if you read many sites the same info is being given by many reseachers, dvm's in the reseaarch and companies that also right behind the report suggest what to feed your pet,,not do away with it....I thought diamond might be the manufacturor because someone wrote talking to Janet Reitmeiyer, DVM of their research program and I havae spoken to her several times and send her emails all the time of which now I have a new post ...just got this from gsd owner and wife who works at Petsmart.....

Take a look at Canine Complete from www.thewholisticpet.com if you feel that your dogs are not getting all the proper nutrition that they should be getting. Especially look at the customer feedback section.
Just got an e-mail from a GSD breeder who is totally against supplemnts. I recommended she take a look at Canine Complete. She said I'll give it a try and lo and behold she loves it as she says it has greatly increased the well being of her dog's it even helped one grow hair on a bald spot she thought would never grow back.
Anyone feeding raw or kibble especially kibble would do well to take a long hard look at Canine Complete.
I'm just a GSD owner like the rest of you. I had my last 2 GSD's die from cancer at both the same age. I vowed never again so did a ton of research on canine nutrition and was agast at what I found out. That report is just the tip of the iceberg but a good place to start
I have put my 18 week old GSD pup on basically a BARF diet but a real safe one as I use Urban Wolf raw meat goats milk yogurt salmon oil and Canine Complete. At least now I can sleep at night knowing I have done the absolute best for my pup as roborob says its the dogs that are important.
