Though I have never had to put any of my dogs down I have been prepared to. Years ago I was prepared to put a few dogs down that belonged to family members because of very serious issues. To my knowledge it has never been against the law to put your own dog down. On farms it is done frequently for unwanted litters, severely injured dogs etc. etc. It has always been the owners right to make decisions for what is best for the family, neighbors and the dog. So I'm not sure what the crime was. If I am having problems with a dog that I feel will not get better and will only cause more problems or harm to others, law suits etc. then I may choose to put the dog down humanely. Are dogs on the endangered species list?

A story years ago I read: German shepherd saves owner. Elderly man had a stroke and was stuck in a room and couldn't get help. The dog kept him alive by putting water from its bowl in the old mans mouth and when the bowl water ran out he got it from the toilet. The man suvived thanks to his mate.
Another: It was a Boarder Collie and another old man. The two of them spent all their time together for year and years. A day came when the old man had fallen into a coma. After awhile the family decided with the Dr's that there was no use, age and reponce. They came to the choice to turn the machine off and let him pass on. The family asked if they could bring in his mate for the last time and where allowed. When the dog saw his friend started to howl as if he knew. Suddenly the old man woke. Don't know why, they say the high pitched noise. I think their friendship was deep.
Hope that puts smiles on faces
