Echo,
I've read quite alot about the neccesity of puppies to be with Mom and littermates, and then later other dogs. I personally don't like it when the breeder takes the bitch out at 5 weeks like many do, because I believe that even Schutzhund dogs need dog dog socialization. According to my foggy memory, it is crucial for puppies between 5-7 weeks old to be with other dogs, so that they can learn dog language and stimulation from littermates and Mom. We could go on and on here, I'm sure with everyone having a different opinion. My experiences as both a professional dog trainer and with my own personal dogs is that puppies imprint on humans much better the earlier you get them. I can always tell when a client has bought older puppies because the puppy doesn't make easy eye contact with humans, is very attracted to other dogs, etc...and is usually very undersocialized. I do believe that breeders can properly socialize past 8 weeks, though it is tons of work and again, I with my one puppy, can do it better and devote more time to it. As far as the bite inhibition goes, puppies can also learn bite inhibition from other dogs they are not related to.
If the laws in your state say that you cannot sell puppies till 8 weeks old, so be it, they don't say anything about viewing the puppies and that is what I thought this thread was about.

No one comes near my kennel area before 6 weeks.
My puppies receive their first set of shots at 8 weeks of age, then 12 weeks & 16 weeks.
I don't believe in over nor under vaccinating.
We used to vaccinate at an earlier age and more frequent.....but have decided thru research,...that this schedule is healthier for my puppies.
