Next time your wife/daughter/sister/mother etc is
being raped, car jacked, robbed assaulted et al,
just call your local crackheads to come to the
scene instead of Police, or, call a Postal Worker.
That's why I said LAWYER UP. There are times when we are COMPELLED to call for LEO involvement, it doesn't mean you have to trust them, expect them to follow the law or even help you in some cases. You the citizen, are calling them to support proper legal recourse and documentation, not purely protection or rescue. We live in a society with laws and procedure, so we are not allowed to just "protect ourselves" even if we are capable of doing so. There's nothing wrong with being COMPELLED to call for LEO involvement, it's just today some folks forget that "accidents" in the field can quickly turn an LEO against a civilian in the worng place at the wrong time.
Work with the laws we have, call LEO's when you are COMPELLED to and have proper legal representation "just in case" you happen to be present when the officer "has an accident".
As, German shepherd dog (admin) has stated, the court system is not always favoring the LEO's. Imagine if a national non-profit organization offering legal aid existed to defend this cause. What would be the long term outomes be and how would LEO behavior change?
Chaffee's former police chief wants his job back after he was fired earlier this month by city council members in a closed session for alleged misconduct.:

apathy towards our LEO members on this board
and take some effort to ensure we all understand
and realize that not ALL officers are corrupt.
That might be a nice start. I have not once said
that animals have not been shot by Police, but I can
tell you in the 45+ years I have had very close ties
with LEO's, I have never heard of ONE of them being
happy about having to shoot an animal when/if the
situation has occured.
I read through the entire thread after it was 'cleaned up'
and it certainly came off as 'Cop Bashing' to me.
But thats my opinion. I also feel strongly about
many other things and have no issue with
stating my opinion about those issues either.
Share things to keep your dogs 'safe'? Sure.
We post suitable signage, have locked
gates, signs on all doors, doors always
always always are locked.
I quite frankly don't worry about someone
suing me because we have a 'Beware of Dog'
sign posted. Aluminum crates in the SUV have
padlocks on them. "In case of Emergency"
contact numbers are easily found in all
our vehicles and our home, and taped to the
top of our crates. Dogs are never left loose
and/or unattended in a yard, ever, not
even 'for a minute'.
Our local and ER vet have billing information
at the ready in the event we are incapacitated
and our animals needs care.
Our address is posted clearly, and well lit
at night to ensure ease of reading it.
We have also taken the effort to introduce
ourselves to our local Police district as well,
they are very aware we have dogs, and that
they are trained dogs.

Workingdogz, The list you made is, IMO, reasonable and helpful, a couple are things I had never thought of
Thats a lot of CYA for a law abiding citizen. Makes you wonder why we all don't just stop owning property of any kind and become hobo's. Not that there's anything wrong with CYA, it just that every year the bar rises regarding what we need to do for CYA, having to keep stacks of old tax forms etc for decades and having surveillance cameras running on our properties, while hoping some videotapes LEO's if we are ever stopped or questioned.
Where does it end?

I've been pulled over numerous times, (and I have had the high insurance rates to prove it) for speeding on the many Interstates I travel. I have yet to be tazed, beaten or have a dog shot. I have also never been unduly harassed etc. If I got pulled over, I was doing something to deserve it. |
Thats alot of " I " Im sure you dont feel that it must happen to you before you would help out those that it is happening to. I think for most of us we can list alot of I's as well. This is happing to others. Any empathy or concern for them?

Hey, it's obvious by the information here that ALL Police officers are morally and ethically corrupt |
All, no. Most? no. Is there a specific number that everyone might feel more comfortable with before you can begin to hammer bad people, whats that number?
I dont believe anyone has posted anything like your mentioning above..

Imagine if a national non-profit organization offering legal aid existed to defend this cause |
Love it... I was hesitant to start talking about piercing immunity, officers who really just made an error could be run over. For every crap officer seems like 10 crap citizens. But a board could look at and identify which and how.
You have great ideas!!!!
Im in for a 500 if you start one for the west coast. Anyone want to second that...... any amount.

And for the person to state that the videos show everything to support that the LEO in that video is wrong/committed a criminal act. That is not true! And for the commenter stating even after the video is shown that we as LEOs are stating the entire facts are not there. They are not there. So we as LEOs HAVE to be rational, non-judge mental can not comment 100% one way or to the other. And we won't. We will say what it appears to be happening, we will say what our opinions are, we will say what our actions might be or would be under either the same or close to the same scenario/situation BUT we can not and will not say what is happening, what did happen and who was right or who was wrong. That is because we were not there and because we are not familiar with the case or FACTS of the case. Are some of the videos upsetting? Hell yes! Upsetting first (at least for me), upsetting first because I am an animal lover, I can not comprehend why some of the animals were shot or killed, I can not fathom when I am seeing a dog I can determine is not aggressive in any way, shape or form. I can not fathom why a dog that is noosed needs to be shot and shot twice? But, and I stated it before, there are some that can attempt to say whatever however that they can and it will come out 1, With an attitude, 2. Anti-Police, 3. Cop bashing, 4. 200% negativity and so on.
I for one, seeing some of the videos presented for what we/I have seen could not stand by or even allow some of the actions to take place. Numerous times I have dealt with animals and humans. I have only shot two animals and that was a rabid raccoon and a deer that was struck by a vehicle. I had to put some thought into both before completing the act, (being an animal lover). But both had to be done.
Another situation, I was on a side street on the outskirts of town and driving with my window opened I heard a "weird" scream. So I stopped and looked around. Down a long driveway (country) I saw an elderly woman with what looked like a 20' pole hitting the bushes. I figured she was swatting a wild animal or something like that. I drove down her driveway to her and now realized she had a speech impediment and was screaming out of fear. From out of the bushes sprang/ran a white blur covered in red. Then out from the bushes jumps a Pit Bull that grabs the white and red blur and takes it back into the bushes. So, now I realize the white blur is this elderly ladies pet poodle but everything is happening in a blink of an eye! I have no idea how bad her dog is injured, (it was bad) and as I draw my weapon and aim, ( everything looked like Pig Pen and that cloud of dirt) I realize I can't, for fear of hitting her dog. I have to act so the only thing I could do is reach in and punch the Pitt in his head. A couple of punches and he let's go and the poodle takes off for the house. I tell her to go check on her dog. I snatched him by his collar and am choking him out. Within ? 20 secs he is calm as jello and has no aggression or interest in me, (humans) I still have him somewhat choked out and put him in my cruiser. He just sat there and looked like he was going for a ride. Her dog had to be PTS.
There was a stretch one time where it seemed every night I was in an physical altercation. And the majority of the instances the subject was bigger than I. On one night the subject and I ended up in the street. It was the wrong side of town and I had arrested at one time or another 5 or 6 of the nine that came out of their houses to see what was happening. They were rooting for the subject I was fighting. (Go figure). At one time, while on the ground, close quarter battle,(CQB) the subject grabbed for my weapon, I honestly believed that he was attempting to gain leverage by turning me over or by rolling over me. At that time I could've shot him and be very well justified. And no one would've questioned my decision. But for me, I, I honestly didn't feel as if my LIFE was threatened. Yes, I was fighting to win, to make sure I didn't lose, to make sure I won so if any of the shit heads on the corner were going to try something I was ready for tat also. BUT, I did not fear for my life! I put the subject in the hospital and came away from the ordeal with some bumps, cuts and bleeding.
MY point is just because we wear the uniform, just because we go through the/a Academy we will and can react differently to the same situation/scenario. And what everyone is failing to realize is that LEOs/SDs and anyone that works along those lines are PROTECTED to and extent by the laws, the same laws that some are trying to use against us when you think our actions are wrong. LEOs, SDs, EMS, First Responders, Paramedics, Public Safety Personnel...... are protected under what's called The Good Samaritan Act. and in layman terms it means what would the AVERAGE individual, (in the jobs listed above), what would the average individual do? How would they act or respond in the same situation? Yes, there is room for error, yes, you might not like it or it might not seem right of fair. But that is imposed due to the situations LEO and the others experience. The split seconds decisions they have to make where there is NO TIME to sit and analize the decision, outcome of taking action.
What's IRONIC is that you could approach 20 people, ( who have had NO dealings with a LEO), NONE and I would bet a PAYCHECK that the MAJORITY would say something negative or bad mouth them. BUT, you approach 20 people who have had dealings with LEO and the MAJORITY would have something good, positive or nice to say. Now you might hear "that no good MFer busted me for a DWI/DUI but that night changed my life forever" or something along those/news article. se lines.
If you want an honest. non-biased opinion on how to approach what situation do deem this occurrence to being or becoming a PROBLEM?????.............................. First step would be AWARENESS. Not just putting up a story. You don't have to be a cop to know the relationship between the news media and law enforcement. AWARENESS with ARTICULATION.Present facts that even a NON ANIMAL LOVER, a NON PET OWNER could comprehend. Do you honestly think every lawyer out there doesn't own a pet? Next, you pool your resources and if cases dictate you attempt class action suit(s). And what it appears that people are not acknowledging is that there are many levels to seek legal action against those that you believe had acted wrong/criminally wrong. It all boils down to your lawyer, the facts and of course finances. But you have Criminal, you have Civil, you have against the Department/Agency, you have against the Officer/individual. You have the alleged crime and then the "lesser" alleged crimes and so forth. Like I stated earlier; This didn't happen overnight and it sure won't be rectified overnight!

If this is so upsetting for you imagine how we all feel. Again, we are not saying you or any member officer is bad, we know you guys would do everything in your power to not shoot dogs. BUT even you can't understand why some of these dogs are being shot. We all know by several/some judgments against officers/departments that this is a problem. BUT here is the big thing, we don't need all these people getting so defensive as videos and stories from law abiding citizens are enough for most of us to understand that there is a problem. However slight it may be it is a problem for all animal lovers.
I know in my heart of hearts that you or the other member officers would never do these things but I can't with confidence say that about ALL officers. I have some very nice dogs that I spent a small fortune on and I don't need some mistaken raid on my home to cause my dogs to be killed or to be pulled over because a vehicle like mine committed a crime and to tell the officers that there is a dog in the vehicle and watch as the moron opens the door on a busy highway without letting someone restrain the dog and then shooting it when it barks, growls or wants to play flashlight. I can't accept it and I am sorry for those feelings. Again, we don't need 15 people defending it. There is no defense for some of this and you have admitted that in your above statement.
If this was a member doing this to their own dogs even when their dogs need to be PTS, I have seen some of the same members who defended the officers get all bent out of shape and slam, bash and even bring it up years later against members who took their own dogs life in their hands.
And I am still struggling to understand some people saying this is bashing officers, these things are true as judged in some cases by the same court system that officers use everyday to put people in prison. It appears to be a double standard.
I have a cousin and an uncle who are officers in a large city and neither of them have ever shot a dog. I also have family who are firefighters in the same city and go out of their way to save every pet they can.
Ask anyone who was here for the DDR-DSH stuff, I can't stand when an animal is abused like this and this is abuse in my book. Some of these officers needed to be charged with animal cruelty at the least.
I posted a story (not sure if it is still here or was deleted) but in that story the officers on the inside were shooting the dogs and a mother on the inside who was kneeling holding her 1 year old child and she was shot by an officer outside who mistook the shoots being fired as enemy fire and shot at shadows killing the young mother and shooting the little girls hand off. The mother was doing what the officers inside instructed. So, yes while it is a tragedy to lose an officer, it is also a tragedy to lose a young mother and maim a child for life all due to gross incompetence of some officers.
I am done with this thread as no matter what I say because of who I am some will say this site is anti-police even though in the past this admin has stood up for LEO's on other threads and IMO the comments on the other thread in OT are uncalled for as this is and has been the only thread in some time about officers. 1 thread in a year but all of a sudden this site is anti-police which is total BS and is actually a drama play. Just like the 10s of unfounded rumors started about this site and the admins.
I am done. BTW, I called 1-800-crackhead and a voice informed me that it would be 2.99 a minute for hot phone sex. Yuck and click.

But what I really, really want to know is how the fundraising for the future Lawyers Strike Force Against Cops Who Shoot Pets, Org., is going? What's the morning tally? I heard you beating the "let's gather the masses" drums; how many opened their wallets? (Oh, your contribution paid for little more than one hour of Lawyer time.)

P.S. Truth is, I probably won't believe a word you say, about this, because anyone can come on here and say, I pledge $500 to a cause that doesn't exist, but if other's join on here to back up their desire to make real out of a virtual donation, then that would count in the tally. My interest is like a focus group, you know, so I can figure out if it is me, so out of touch with reality, and not you!
