SunSilver you say she made dogs like the ones of her youth. Then they where soft , weak dogs incapable of protection, She took a dog and made them worse > I looked at her homecoming 2008 pics from her web site, Big soft eared dogs, most where long coats and gaiting where scared with ears back and eyes wide , check it out.. People could care less what she does, but its her bad mouthing the Shepherds of today and yesterday when she has created much worse than ever\n the American Show dog.  They resemble malinutes, so why not just own a malimute..

Hans you are a good friend to her thats for sure to take up for her like you are. But OFA is the best we got here and it works. Like it or not , not many bad hips get  certified with OFA .........I have many A fast Normal dogs never pass OFA Here. Lets face it without good hips a working dog or for that matter a pet suffers and we must strive for good hips, NO I do not trust a LMX system when someone is keeping the records instead of a board of people who have no connection with the program or breeders......

Got to go do some bitework, This bitch is crazy so much like a male and so aggressive I love her....

Wrestleman, while it is true a small minority of Shilohs have such soft temperments that they are no good at protection, remember the post that Mystere made about Bisou?

She said the dog MUST go to a home that understood this dog WOULD PROTECT, and they needed to make sure she was properly introduced to strangers, or, better yet, confined in a safe area when guests were in the home.

So you are wrong, wrong wrong about the temperments!

How many times do I have to say this??

by VomMarischal on 27 May 2010 - 22:05

Sunsilver, that's not actually a logical response. I have known Goldens and even Greyhounds who have been willing to protect. Just not very many of them, and it's sure not a major component of the temperament...just a fluke.

This has gone so far past ridiculous that it's, well, ridiculous!  I don't understand why Tina just doesn't change the wording on her site!  From what I've read, even from those that abhor the Shiloh, is that the issue is with the billing, not necessarily the breed itself!   I can even understand, to a certain extent, why they were advertised this way in the beginning, but it's time to make the split complete.  Siimply removing reference to the Shiloh being a "type" of GSD would make most folks happy!  There would be less resistance from the GSD people and most of this would end.  I don't see what's so difficult about that.  The reference keeps bringing the issue back to the similarities and differences because of that simple reference.  If the reference would go away, maybe the Shiloh could actually stand on its own.  Does that make any sense?

Wrestleman, I can't speak for all other Shilohs as I am new to this breed and we just got our rescue Shiloh 7 months ago.  First off, he does NOT have soft ears in the least. In addition, his ears are up the majority of the time. Our friends jokingly call him "top model" because he always looks as if he is posing. He does have  a somewhat soft temperament, but not extreme.  I seriously doubt he'd have a prayer at doing Schutzhund due to his size, but I know he would protect me with his life in the real world. I've had to call him away from cornering what he perceived to be an intruder a few times. I've done Schutzhund in the past and although I would never proclaim to be an expert, I can tell you this dog meant business.  I guarantee he would never  let a stranger in our house. He is very healthy and he has good hips at five years of age (we had x-rays done when we got him). He is a well-balanced dog with good nerves. He is also a therapy dog.  So much of your opinion about these dogs is based on what you have heard and read. I am not telling you this because I have drunk the koolaid or have any alterior motives. I think I got the very kind of dog Tina Barber has been trying to develop for the past 20-30 years. I have said this before, but I've always been a diehard GSD lover since childhood and I've had both working line  and showline dogs. When this Shiloh was first offered to us I turned up my nose, based largely on what I had heard on this board- too soft, giant breed, soft ears, poor nerves, spooky, etc.  Through a lot of persuasion from our friend who was fostering him, and to make a  long story short we adopted him and have NO regrets. All of the negative things I heard about these dogs, except for the large, size did NOT  hold true with our Shiloh.  You can't believe everything you hear. Again, these dogs are NOT GSDs, but they certainly are a dog that you will hear more and more about...in a positive light.

I hope you are enjoying your time with you bitch. A drivey GSD can be tons of fun!

Tina should not change anything on her Website to "please" a few people on this Forum who have been so outspoken against her and the Shiloh.    It is still a FREE Country -- at least for a little while longer.....maybe.....

I'll post where I want.   You have no say in the matter.   I'm not stirring anything; Tina doesn't have to change anything to appease this Forum.    You are so damn bossy.
