Our Breed - the genuine German Shepherd Dog breed, here in the United Kingdom, is being castigated and punished by an organisation which has proved over many years, time and time again, that it will not make any measurable health screening tests a requirement of registration or entry into it shows, including Championship Shows, THE KENNEL CLUB.

and our leaders are set on APPEASING THEM.

R I P the GSD in the UK

Can anyone calculate how many Germanic dogs were registered last year compared to English also is there a rough way of guestimating the middle of the road dogs?

Also the percentage of each that are health screened and preferable below the average breed score?

I know we are about to get a new Breed supplement.

Possible scenario?
The GSD fraternity could decide to largely ignore the Kennel Club. We simply continue to have our Shows in 2010 & 2011, then organise some spectacular open shows in 2012, and some Regional GSD Events (WUSV rules) hopefully with KC permission. Then we have our  CH. Shows in 2012, 2013 etc. We stop ALL double handling at ALL Breeds Shows with immediate effect.
We continue to practice our Health Screening Schemes, and our Judges continue Judging, and our surveyors continue Surveying. In short we continue doing the MANY things we have always done for the health and welfare benefit of our breed, which is and always has been "significantly above and beyond" that required by the Kennel Club.
If we are faced with further difficulties from the Kennel Club, we vigorously explore an ALTERNATIVE SHOW SYSTEM for our GSD breed here in the UK. We can also vigorously explore ALTERNATIVE REGISTRATION SYSTEMS to address the possibility (not probability) that the Kennel Club may cause us some difficulties with our Kennel Club Registrations.
We can explore the establishment of "Shadow GSD Clubs" to our existing GSD Clubs which will NOT be Kennel Club Licensed.
We can explore an "Alternative Judges List" for Judges who may Judge our Non KC recognised/licensed Shows. Many Judges currently on the KC Lists may NEVER want to Judge a KC recognised/licensed Show again.
We can establish a REGIONAL ORGANISATION for our breed within the UK, which will ensure a fair distribution of events geographically for our GSD enthusiasts.
We can enter into dialogue with the SV and the FCI with regard to any assistance they may be able and willing to offer us.
We can establish a GSD FUND to be used for Legal Advice and necessary expenses incurred in pursuing our campaign.
We establish a Title for our campaign, I suggest "Genuine GSD Campaign" (G-GSD-C)
We can explore the use of our GSD websites to publish GGSD publicity material. Taking ALL of our websites together that presents a very powerful primary "communication system" for our publicity.

I respectfully suggest the GSD Partnership give the Kennel Club a square centimeter of plain white paper, and ask them to write down the details of all those incidents of "double handling" which have caused injuries of any kind in the past.

Extract from the Kennel Club GSD Breed Standard:
"The topline runs without any visible break from the set on of the neck, over the well defined withers, falling away slightly in a straight line to the gently sloping croup"

A Genuine GSD

It's interesting to see that there is a comment on "Times online" from a KC member agreeing with the KC, but not mentioning his KC membership status!

How can anyone agree with the KC and not agree with what's been suggested (again and again) to the KC re: mandatory health checks?  It would be laughable if it weren't so serious.  Of course, most of t'other side will agree with the KC, because it means they will not be forced to carry our various health checks... and God forbid... SURVEY their dogs!

I really think this whole fiasco needs to be looked at from a legal perspective now.  I'd still very much like to know who the KC is answerable to and if the "old boy network" is salaried in any way!  Anyone know?

This story is now on Our Dogs online in the Members section. If you are a member please log in and put our view across before the story is swamped with the anti-double handling brigade's views.

Cheers, Shirley

The Show side of the genuine GSD may be destroyed in the UK, however that is a "drop in the ocean" compared with the rest of the World. You only have to STOP SHOWING in the UK at Kennel Club Shows to be totally unaffected.

Over recent years we have lost several GSD Clubs from our breed, I feel sure we will lose many more over the next few years. Our GSD Show scene was on the road to a "lingering demise" - The Kennel Clubs behaviour towards us, may be likened to a visit to "Dignitas" in that it will certainly speed up our GSD Show scene's demise!
