I think most reading the thread get that it's an issue, but I'm sure how prevalent the problem is could be debated from here to eternity. How about contributing some solutions, or some things we can do to keep our animals safe? It does come off as bashing, IMO, when all that's posted is video after video, or story after story, whether you mean it that way or not. I realize some have made suggestions about what departments should do in regards to training or consequences, but mostly it's been more of an us or them type thing.
Over the years I have adjusted how I do things with my dogs because of different experiences I've had. My dogs are always supervised by one of us when they go outside- over the years I have caught children and weirdly, a couple of adults, harassing my dogs in different ways. When in public, my boys are always on leash, no matter what, and I'm at the point where I really don't want others touching my dogs anymore, mostly because common sense doesn't always seem so common any longer.
When I've been pulled over as the random search vehicle while entering the military base, I always interrupt as politely as possible to inform the guard or MP that I have a GSD in my truck and it's best if we step out and away from the vehicle. I've done the same with police officers, (warning that I have a GSD who may bark and startle them), at random checks they sometimes set up over holiday weekends or whatever. Most have appreciated my heads up, occasionally there's a jerk in the crowd but that's life.

Wow, I have not seen such an Anti-Police thread
in a long time. Amazing.
Next time your wife/daughter/sister/mother etc is
being raped, car jacked, robbed assaulted et al,
just call your local crackheads to come to the
scene instead of Police, or, call a Postal Worker.
Maybe even 1-800-GOFed-Ex?
Ask what 'Brown' can do for you will mean
something totally different from here on in.
UPS can serve search warrants now instead!
Hey, it's obvious by the information here that ALL
Police officers are morally and ethically corrupt
dog killers and will do what they want anyway right?
I need to go reprogram our phones to have FedEX
instead of 911 now.

Oh please let me know how that one goes.... yet I dont think I would not be adding
Fed Ex or UPS to my plan on how to keep our beloved pets safe...LOL?
I did how ever after speaking with other Military familes ( how can I forget this one ),
the "best" way to protect your home & yard is camera's. You can get them at Costo.
You can program them into you PC as well. That way you could have peace of mind
on he said she said could of would of but most important it can also be used against you
and your dog. Well, at that point I dont know if you would want to infor PD
that you taped your dog attacking them? Once PD knows you have a camera in place,
you will see an a "new honest cop" just make sure they know they are being taped
& recorded if on your property, I hope this all helps. Anybody else has idea's?

I don't think it is bashing because NO ONE said this is all cops. Only a few bad seeds that seem to be covered for by fellow officers. Remember this can happen to you coming back from training, shopping, vacation or the police breaking into the wrong home. I honestly believe there is a shoot first mentality among some departments/officers, not all OFFICERS/DEPARTMENTS and if you guys can't see it then no amount of videos/stories is going to change your perceptions. Again, we are not bashing/pointing out all officers and for the life of me I can't see why people are saying this.
I would like the member officers to discuss how many raids or calls they have been on were a pet was shot. But I don't think they would discuss this because it is shhhhhhh. Not talked about, they can't even agree there are bad seeds doing the wrong things.
If you folks had a pet killed by officers I highly doubt you would have the same blanket warm fuzzy feelings about all officers. Walk in the shoes of the people who have lost these pets, live their nightmare. You can't so you just want to blame cop bashing when in fact that is not the case.
Dogs restained, dogs tied up and dogs cowering being shot by the police, sorry I can't back that BS.
Cameras, lol.

Yup, I could also get struck by lightening,
I could get hit by a car, or I could slip in the
shower and split my skull open and bleed out.
Hell, my wife could poison me too.
You likely won't find any of the members that
are LEO to discuss this type of situation any more
than they would a shooting involving a human.
And yes, there are bad officers, just like there are
bad employees in every walk of life.
Christ, we had to go around and around with our
Postal worker for mail delivery because they were
too lazy to close a gate.
Do I think ALL Postal workers are lazy? No.
Now, on the other hand, UPS and FedEx open
AND close our gates.
Having a fairly close relationship with numerous
LEO's, I can tell you from my own experiences,
not all appears as it is reported as well. I could site
several examples of media one sided reporting etc,
but why bother.
I'll keep rolling the dice every day, as I have been for
years now.
I've been pulled over numerous times,
(and I have had the high insurance rates to prove it)
for speeding on the many Interstates I travel.
I have yet to be tazed, beaten or have a dog shot.
I have also never been unduly harassed etc.
If I got pulled over, I was doing something to deserve it.
I'll stick with calling 911 in the event of an emergency,
Ya'll let me know how 1-800-Crackhead works out
for anyone that has such a low opinion of LEO.

lol, If it ever happens to you, it will change your feelings.
"You likely won't find any of the members that

No, but they will be here defending all officers and claiming the videos and stories don't depict the facts. When they don't know the facts either.
Do some searches on what the courts are doing on civil cases involving dogs being shoot by LEOs. Immunity is being stripped departments are paying large judgements. But there are no problems. lol.
Have a good day everyone and be good to each other.

While yes, I do extend police officers a certain level of respect automatically, I am not so naive as to believe all are good people. I can't imagine an incident like this happening to me, but again, I'm not so naive to believe it could never happen to me, that is why I try and inform officers, guards, MPs that I have a dog in my vehicle. This thread has served to inform me that it happens more than I thought and I appreciate tips and ideas to keep my animals as safe as possible. I feel awful for anyone who has experienced the loss of a pet at the hands of someone you should be able to trust, meaning police officers. Maybe it's a useless effort, I was only trying to point out that instead of arguing one side or the other so fervently, that it turns people off to the real issue, maybe we could share things we do to keep our dogs safe as possible.

I think I will just start crating my dogs at all times, unless being let out in my fenced yard that has signs warning of dogs. There that is my tip, crate your dogs.
I have to get, yard work ahead.
