Eggshell does hide imperfections and is still washable. Flat is what builders push because it hides almost everything. Semi-gloss shows everything, and if you want to patch something, you basically have to paint the whole wall, because you can see where it was patched.

I’ve got to ageee with Vito here !
Eggshell walls look soft and elegant!
Too much reflection with semi gloss!
Semi gloss highlights the trim and looks very fashionable!
When I had toddlers I thought I needed semigloss, but in truth it just magnified the little finger smudges!

Here is a good guide to paint finishes and when one might want to use them.
I definitely like the satin finish and gloss trim for the kitchen/great room areas. Of course, what you love is what you should live with in your own home!
