All those poor people. The one couple is probably spending their life savings on their pom, putting their dogs needs ahead of their own.
I'm glad to hear your moms dog is better.

I'm happy to hear Jewel is doing better.
I'm not sure if we will ever have an accurate count on the number of dogs affected by this.

Blitzen, while I was in the Vets, waiting today, I was listening to everything around me. I noticed alot of "we do not know what caused the kidney problems". I was asking people in the waiting room what thier dogs were eating? Alot of the Older folkes had thier dogs on the SR. or Deit food they get from the vets office, which the vets recomeneds to them. So, I would say it is pretty safe to say, the vets would be in no hurry to blame the food or even suggest it might be. I understand without the biopsy, there is no way of really knowing, but they are not even going down that road, it was almost like, the kidney problems are being caused by anything else, but.....yet no other suggetions of possible causes. This will also keep the numbers down. Yet they will tell you they were getting a large increase of pets with kidney problems.

I was fasinated by the kidney transplants, so while I was there I was asking alot of questions. The dogs are on a waiting list, just like people. The donor dog has to be adopted by the sick dog's family. One family was telling me that the sick dog showed signs of improvement faster than the donor. I would guess if your that sick, or your healthy then..
The cost is up there, meds were about $1,500 per month, and the transplant and care before and after so far they figured they were over $10,000 and not done yet. The wife whispered, it was more, but better for her husb's heart to think $10,000. It got really funny, when the wife left the room, the Husband told me the cost was more, but better for his wife to think the $10,000 because she is to cheap! Alot of the people knew each other and were swaping stories about being at UC DAVIS. Is there anyone out there that has gone thru this? I would be interested in knowing how this works. Are the meds temporary/or the rest of the dogs life? I am not sure about this, but I kinda got that you could chose different meds to bring the cost down or maybe it depends on the dog, not sure how that worked. Very interesting waiting room.
