Okay, newbie question, is it sometimes cronyism, or do we assume you are like-minded breeders in terms of lines, etc.? I ask this because "one litter a year" is exactly why the availability of pups is an issue for the dog buying public who seeks your particular quality of dog. And that is assuming there is demand, which I believe is actually true. (Not too long ago the GSD was rated 3rd most popular in the USA, sorry don't remember who did the study, just that GSD was 3.)
I believe availability is the root reason the GSD is appearing in pet stores.

Beetree When I have a litter I bred for myself first as I keep 1-3 puppies from the litter (most of the time) but have people wanting puppies. Most of the time I have small litters (cause we are only wanting 3-4 puppies and only tie once) but that does not always happen and we have more then expected. I do believe in spay and Neuter. Not every dog is a breeder. If/when we have our hands full and not enough people for the pups then we do not bred common sense. I personally work and train my dogs so having 15 dogs is out of the question. If I do not have enough time in the day to work and train every dog then I have to many.
