There are some exceptions, the rules within the Landesgroups do slightly differ ( participation of FCI qualification trials, participation of DJJM ), but all requirements are written down within the single Landesgroups, so everybody "knows" in case he/she wants to compete.
Right now I don´t get the point - there are "qualification trials" , because this is the only possibility to compare the dogs ( same field, same judges, same helpers ), GSDCA, USCA, doesn´t matter - the best dogs out of every camp "fighting" for the participation of the WUSV trial.
No directly comparison = no qualification = no participation Nationally ( in the best case Internationally )
A sick dog at that weekend? Bad luck - happened before, and will happen again, think about the World Championships in any sport, or the Olympics...you are either fit, or you loose, there is no second chance.
Markobytes gave a great alliteration...read it once again, and think about it.
In case there are really "free" places within GSDCA because not enough people are interested or were able to achieve the necessary points ( Dog1, did I understand this right ? ) GSDCA and USCA have to think about different rules for the NEXT season, but not for the current one.
IPO competitors do spend years of work and a lot of money into these events, they have to be sure about the rules ( = no wild cards for dogs that didn´t qualify according to the existing rules, even in case it´s bad luck for the dog/handler team in question ).
And in case "wild cards" are really needed in the future because not enough people participate ( and qualify ), there must be rules for the "wild carts", too - otherwise someone able to buy the latest BSP champion may be able to get a place in the US team without ever stepping on any IPO field with that dog before...( a lot of constellations come to my mind right now ).
What do I want to say?
Rules make sense, people need to be sure about the rules, and "shit happens" - that´s life, not only in dopg sport, but everywhere.

" If full complement qualifies per the rule, let them compete....if there is not enough available, then said organizations have to work harder next year....but abide by contractual terms.....simple!"

Rescue is pretty noble and selfless as long as you keep a clear head and don't become a crazy hoarder.
Rescue, rehabilitate, retrain & rehome is the ultimate if its legit and not just flipping.
A lady here does that, she is a goddess. Would love to breed or have her own dogs but suppresses her own needs to save dogs in bad situations.
Gonna leave shit to her in my will, she doesn't know it.
First time she will know of me is when she gets a fat cheque and thank you letter after my death.
