Lol...this just gets better and better.
For those looking for a dog to protect their back yard and bite for real...just find a reverse mask and "DDR" claim in the pedigree, because 30 years ago their ancestors were bred in the eastern half of Germany so they'll for sure protect the house and bite anyone that comes near.
All we look for is confirmation of our own beliefs. Sad really...
Where does dark sable/big blocky head come into play with a reverse mask? Everyone has such different beliefs about what a DDR dog is, it's pretty funny. Guess my 100% WGWL bitch and all of her siblings who possess the reverse mask must be DDR somehow as well. Large percentage of DDR having reverse mask…where do people get these things? I'll give you credit though Sunsilver, that's probably the first original thought I've ever seen you post. Interesting how it couldn't be further from the truth though.

Sunny, Werner Schultz explains about the weak nerves and nervous barking of the 'wall' dogs, causing soldiers to search on foot for alert for non existent 'escapee' by nervous dogs. He explains the DDR 'wall' dog was not all it was cracked up to be in mythology. He sees the dogs for what they were. He also sch titles all his own breeding dogs...weeding out the weak nerves.

Vk4, to answer your original question based on what I see in the peds people brag "DDR" on, I believe there are 6.

He is, Jenni. I spoke with him a couple years ago. Very generous and first hand knowledge, with no bs.

but "border patrol" sounds more impressing than SchH, doesn´t it?

by Sunsilver on 03 February 2017 - 17:02
I really didn't explain it very well. And I certainly would not use the mask as a criteria for selecting a dog, especially given how much time has gone by since the reunification of Germany!

So we got DDR "border patrol dogs/wall dogs " - but those dogs were not used for breeding within DDR
and
we got Czech "border patrol dogs" that were weeded out and more or less replaced by DDR sport dogs...
and
today we have Czech dogs with a lot of WGWL blood in the pedigree...
Why don´t we just talk about dogs suitable/unsuitable for breeding?
by joanro on 03 February 2017 - 18:02
Because the title of this thred isn't 'dogs suitable/unsuitable for breeding'....instead, the title is; "How many DDR peds are there?"
So to the op, I will answer: a lot more DDR registered dogs in older zps pedigrees than current close up gsd pedigrees.
