Looks like someone else on here also had problems with the flea collar back in 2013: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/community.read?post=721293-warning-on-new-seresto-flea-and-tick-collar I got one on of the collars my girl Sasha and she has been very strange lately. Sasha has been refusing food and acting depressed, so I'm going to take it off and see if she gets better. I just had her to vet a few days after the collar was put on her so I know she is other wise healthy.

Our 7 year old Yorkie is having a bad experience and I believe it was related to the Soresto flea collar, especially after reading the other reviews. She started by being disinterested when WE were eating - not normal for Dolly. Then she began to stagger and her legs would go out from under her. Even when she was laying on her belly her head would begin to go over to her right side and it would almost turn her over. She had problems drinking from her bowl because she could not steady herself long enough. I began to give her drinks from a syringe. Her breathing sounds like snoring. Dolly had similar problems last year on the oral flea meds Nexgard, and the year before on Trifexis. Last year we almost lost her due to dehydration. We took the collar off her this evening and I'm giving her a bath. Hopefully she will be some better in the morning. I am so sick of trying different flea products that don't work or make my baby sick. The Frontline was not controlling the fleas 3 years ago but we have to find something that works without making her so sick.

I wish I had seen these posts earlier. The vet recommended the Seresto flea and tick collar for my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel when Frontline and other topical drops stopped working. Things were okay for about a month although he had begun to have problems with loosening stools. Then one afternoon he threw up his breakfast and fell over. He couldn't walk. I took off the collar, and after about an hour or so he seemed wobbly but much better. We went for a little walk, and he fell over once, but he continued to improve. I called Bayer and my vet and asked if the flea collar could be to blame. They both said no, not unless he had tried to eat it. But he couldn't have done that. The collar had been securely around his neck. A couple of days later, I put the collar back on him. His stools were getting looser until it was pouring out of him like water. I tried a vet prescribed dog food, chicken and rice, beef and rice, pumpkin, but nothing helped. The vet gave him steroids and antibiotics, and things started to improve. But then one morning, he couldn't stand up anymore. He refused to eat. I was carrying him from room to room. I took the collar off him again, but he didn't get better. Blood tests showed a problem with his pancreas, but nothing explained why he couldn't stand up. He was in pain, and the vet couldn't help him.

I don't know if the collar had anything to do with it or not. But if I get another dog, I'll steer clear of Soresto. :( He was a sweet 11 year old dog, but he was healthy before I put the collar on him.

Um, no offense, but as with many of the small companion dog breeds, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are prone to developing pancreatitis [if they don't pass from a congenital heart condition that is a significant problem in the breed]. While the collar may not have been helping matters, it's unlikely that it would be involved with a pancreatic problem. The timing was most likely coincidental, and your sweet old fellow was already developing pancreatic disease before you put the collar on him...so don't feel guilty or second guess yourself or anything of that nature. Eleven years, while far too short for anyone who loves their dog, is a good run for a Cav, especially if he enjoyed 10 years and 11 months of good health out of the 11 years.

No offense taken, hexe. Thank you for your post. I have read so much about Cavaliers, but somehow I never knew they could be prone to pancreatitis. I knew about the potential heart problems and syringomyelia, but I thought he (and I) had been so lucky because he seemed to have avoided those problems. After reading your post, I did, in fact verify that peritonitis can also be a problem. He did have a good life until the end. I wanted him to live forever though. :(

ChestersMom, I know what you mean...we all want them to live forever, or at worst just one second less than we ourselves do.

Jenni How do you use a lint roller? never been able to use them even on clothes or sofas because with GSD two inches or so and the roller is defunct. Am I missing something ( I tend to be a bit literal minded)?

Also what oils to you use and how? I have a friend with a horrendous flea problem that nothing seems to work on and they were thinking of doubling up until I put the fear of god in them ( collar plus topical). Plus even worse they throw their money away on "professional" pest control each month.

I've tried to get her to try diatamous earth or salt but so far no go. Problem is made worse they have them inside and out. Doesn't help they rent and landlord unwilling to do upkeep so they're pretty sure they have squirrels , rats and mice in attic if not possums. Since they have 3 dogs (littles) and 3 cats (which ALWAYS makes flea control much more difficult) they won't push him cause they are afraid of not finding another landlord to rent from. They moved into this situation so I suspect it might also be a neighborhood problems.

I saw a product at OSH the other day that claims to kill flea larvae in the soil ( you mix it into the dirt it is not topical. Anyone have experience with this? I think it used nematodes.

I use this in a spray and at times in a dip for the dogs.

Fleas do not survive well in water even with just a simple soap if you wish to you one.

I use vinegar and this in the water (no rinsing needed).
