I cook the eggs because it looks better to me. I'm sure the dogs don't care :-) I'd really like to find a dry dog food that I can mix 50/50 with meat every day. Then whatever meat I buy for myself, I'll just make enough for three. I had been feeding them Iams but now I'm hearing that isn't good either. How about Eagle Pack? A friend of mine had to sign a contract a few years ago stating that if she didn't feed her new puppy Eagle Pack there would be no guarantee.

Hey Ya'll! We've started feeding our dogs boiled chicken (or lean hamburger), carrots, peas, (sometimes broccoli, spinach and celery) and a little cooked brown rice for dinner. Once in awhile for a little added "treat" they get a touch of shredded cheese on top. I found a site with recipes: http://www.i-love-dogs.com/dog-food-recipes.html For breakfast, we occasionally feed steel cut oatmeal with peanut butter, yogurt, and banana with a drizzle of honey. Otherwise, it's the chicken/hamburger meal I mentioned above. I am excited to hear that tuna is a good option because I have a dog that needs some weight conscious food. I do realize they need things to keep their teeth strong, but there's no way I could feed raw. LOL I get grossed out watching some people eat cooked chicken...I can't even imagine raw. LOL I can't wait to hear some more suggestions.

Eggs too. Sorry I forgot to mention that. I cook them eggs in the morning. :) They get french omelettes too. LOL

I feed 4 of my dogs Canidae all life stages. Two dogs get Innova Evo RF, 52% protein 15% fat, mixed with Canidae. I also feed Raw leg quaters (washed) and raw eggs including the shell. I don't believe the k9 digestive system is designed to eat cooked food. Feeding raw is great if you have the time. You also have to make sure its nutrionally balanced. Kyle

I agree with Kyle about raw vs cooked. When is the last time a wolf flame-broiled his rabbit?

LMAO I agree, but I don't think I can stomach it personally. So that's a no go in my house. :)

Just curious, How many of us are looking at what we eat? If you look at the Diamond recall last year it states, the dog food was made with Human grade corn, it just killed them and long term for us, gives us cancer? Now this is jut a rumor, but, here goes. Our pasta is made in China with their wheat. (It is just a rumor because I can not find where I read this, while reasearching all of this BS.) Now, what about the gravy packages, we buy in the store. Anybody feel real good about buying those right now?

OH God help us all. If I read one more page of knowledge that all of you are feeding your dogs that kind of food and totally forgetting about BBQ. You are so overwhelming with all those super advises to the person on top of the page I hope she can pick a good selection. If nothing else Darling ask Bob O he is there with less confusing answers. Raw is the way to go folks .. it is what their GI tracts were designed to handle. There are so many companies now that make balanced raw mixes .. all you do is defrost them and put them in the bowl.. couldn't get much easier!! And for those of you who will come at me about cost, some of those premium bags of cooked junk are pretty darn pricey!! Everyone needs to do their research... check out Dr Billinghurst's website or some of the others.. learn to understand that you balance over time and give variety.... heck even we don't eat totally balanced meals all the time And you still need to supplement.. read all about it We travel a lot, so forget about that angle.... most hotels nowadays have refridge/freezers and a good cooler will keep you going for days Also, you can get the freeze dried versions of many of these products for airplane travel.. although I know someone who uses those thermal bags you buy at Sam's and she puts her frozen stuff right in them, zips up and checks them as baggage and they come off just as frozen as when they went on.... I am a distributor for Oma's Pride, www.omaspride.com and Healthy Pet Products, www.healthypetdiet.com....those are just 2 of the many out there.. there's Bravo, K9Kravings, Natures Variety... Just as a point of info, I am feeding 7 adult GSD's and we start our litters out raw as well.. believe me they thrive!! It has made a huge difference and believe to or not, we have way less diarrhea than we ever had on kibble!! Just food for thought.. no pun intended!

I would have to say variety is the key! Raw meat and eggs are better than cooked but if you cannot stand that then you should ad some bonemeal (if you can find it) and digestive enzymes also probiotics (these are destroyed by heat). The later should be added to a dry/canned dog food as well as it is void of these essentials. You can use plain yogurt instead but it doesn't have all the probiotics. I feed canned mackeral, sardines, and cold water salmon. I am afraid tuna might have to high a mercury content if fed to often. I also do ad ground raw veggies, cottage cheese, pasta or brown rice at times. Sometimes I make them a oatmeal like muffin. Organ meat at least once a week. Like I said "variety". My kids also get alfapha/kelp added to their diet daily. Its not rocket science, just what do you think people fed their dogs "before" there were dog food companies??? Also if your like me, I never give much thought to what I eat and if it is balanced meal or not. LOL!
