My holistic vet got me started on the raw addition to the dogs meals about 10 years ago when I was having some problems with a dog. She feels that dogs need that raw protein added to their diet since they are carnivores. It cleared up my dogs problems in 3 days. What my regular vet had tried had not worked for 6 months, that's when I found a holistic vet.
I am too lazy to go completely raw diet, so this works well for me.

I have used several dog foods some with better results than others. The ones that have really worked for me are...
AvoDerm - although a couple of my dogs lost weight on this food as it is lower on the calleries
Kirkland - From Costco. I have used both the Kirkland signature kibble. Either the lamb and rice or the chicken and rice. But mostly I use the Natures Domain which is grain free. I have had very good results with this food.
Taste of the Wild - My mom feeds her dog the Pacific Stream formula.. I have used all the formulas before with good results.
I really do like that Acana food from Champion pets. I have been feeding this to Xena for a little while now with good results. I am using a mixture of the fish and lamb formulas.
I would never feed a dog food with corn, wheat or soy in it. Dogs do not need or do well on these grains. They do not digest them. I do prefer to use a grain free dog food as I feel that dogs do not need grains in their diets on a regular basis. I do sometimes give a dog treat that has brown rice or a small amount of barley. But this is once in a great while. I do also give my dog raw as one of her meals. So I do kibble one time and raw the other.
