The earth viewed from the space looks like circle to person who does not know any better. An image

It is He who sits above the circle of the earth,.....

Isayah 40:22

Note, the Biblical Hebrew word for “circle” (חוג—chuwg) can also mean “round” or “sphere, or orb” From Google translate:

He drew a circular horizon on the face of the waters,

Job 26:10

At the boundary of light and darkness On the sphere is called terminator and   is always a circle, because the earth is round. The terminator line  is    a circle  as projected on earth . Where it would be perfect? In the flat water rather then mountainous terrain.    This biblical passage would be nonsense if the earth were flat, since there would be no true terminator; there is no line to “step over” that separates the day from night on a flat surface.

Many astronomy textbooks credit Pythagoras (c. 570–500 B.C.) with being the first person to assert that the earth is round. However, the biblical passages are older than this. Isaiah is generally acknowledged to have been written in the 700s B.C. and Job is thought to have been written around 2000 B.C. The secular astronomers before the time of Pythagoras must have thought the Bible was wrong about its teaching of a round earth, yet the Bible was exactly right. It was the secular science of the day that needed to be corrected.

Heb 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

world is made of particles, indiscernible to our eyes

The problem that the above posts ignored is that when those Bible passages were written the ancients had already established that the Earth was a sphere. Therefore, even if the writers of those Biblical passages were claiming the Earth was a sphere they weren't claiming anything new or original. Ancient Babylonia was well-known for its astronomical observations and much, if not all, of the Bible as we know it today was written after the Babylonian Captivity, during the period of the Second Temple. This period includes the Hellenistic conquest which introduced Greek culture. These claims that Job was written in 2,000 BC ignore the fact that the oldest Biblical fragments, in Hebrew, are from 250 or so BC.

Now, someone may claim that the oldest surviving copies of the Bible are copies of much older documents but even if true they were not exact copies. Hebrew scribes rewrote and revised older versions of texts in order to remove from the Bible, or Torah, inconsistencies between books for example. One clue to this is the use of words borrowed from Persian which would not have happened if something was written in 2,000 BC. Given that in other passages the Bible claims that the Earth is seated on pillars they didn't remove all of the inconsistencies. Let's not forget how Cain is exiled and his fear is that other people he will meet will kill him, hence the mark of Cain, even though the Bible never mentions where these other people came from. The Greeks who would later translate the Bible also made changes. Then you even had the changes that were made when it was translated into Latin.

Finally, the Hebrew word for circle can also mean sphere but there is a Hebrew word for sphere, which is used, also in Isaiah, and translated as ball in English. It is in the verses on the judgement of Shebna where God says He will roll Shebna into a ball and throw him. The Greek translators, who were writing long before English was a language, also translated the Hebrew word as circle (but into Greek) and if they meant sphere or ball they would have used a Greek word for sphere or ball as they had done in the judgement of Shebna. Getting back to Isaiah in Hebrew, there are two different words used; one was translated as circle and the other into ball (from the judgement of Shebna). If the Hebrew writers had meant for circle to be interpreted as ball or sphere then they would have used the word that means that rather than a word that could mean it. And for those who believe we must take a literal translation of the Bible there can be no choice but to accept circle as meaning circle, not sphere.

@notisyou

Stop moving goal posts. You are using straw man sophistry ;) The point of my post  is not date, but that science is in Bible.

Sphere: I do not care how it was translated. All I am saying is what the word חוג—chuwg means in Hebrew. You as a publisher should know that translations are not very reliable. That is why I went to original language which in this case is Hebrew. .

That translation of Hebrews 11:3 is a stretch. Let's use the quoted version: "Heb 11:3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible."

One way to look at it is that the worlds were created by the word of God. Words are not visible. More precisely, everything we see was created by God, from nothing, only his words (his will).

And those tiny particles are indeed visible. I mean, God should have known that one day we would be able to see atoms thus negating our need for faith in things "unseen."

The Greeks also had an atomic theory 500 years before Hebrews was written. It is from the New Testament after all.

No offense, but you don't read ancient Hebrew and neither do I but those who do point out that there is a better word for sphere and it's used in the same book.

And pointing out inaccuracies in your posts is not sophistry. Using inaccuracies, is. If those "facts" were not vital to your argument you never would have used them.

Regardless, I''l take this shot at your goalposts and state that there is no science in the Bible. You have not shown that, at all. And even if I accepted, for the sake of argument, that there was, there is zero evidence that the science it contains was original. It's all after it was discovered by other cultures.

The Bible is supposed to have been written by divine inspiration but the so called science in it was discovered by pagans before God inspired someone to write about it.

But again, there is no science in the Bible. Trying to claim that Hebrews contains an atomic theory is an incredible stretch and it doesn't compare to Democritus' ideas which are far more developed and descriptive and, most importantly, he comes out and says exactly what he means.

I stick to what I said same verse: The Bible indicates that the earth is round. Isaiah 40:22, where it mentions the “circle of the earth.” From space, the earth always appears as a circle since it is round. This matches perfectly with the Bible.

Another verse to consider is Job 26:10, where it teaches that God has “inscribed” a circle on the surface of the waters at the boundary of light and darkness. This boundary between light and darkness is where evening and morning occur. The boundary is a circle since the earth is round.
