I have always had two females together, no problem! I know many people who have two intact females together, also with no problems. It depends on the dogs. I prefer to have males, every female I have had was too independent. My males stick by my side and seem more loyal.

Funny you should say that as we always had female GSDs and they were sweet and very tolerant not to mention that they bonded with me a man...Our last GSD was a rather large boned very independent male who bonded with my wife and was NOT very tolerant... That boy would sit between my wife and I and look at me as if to say "she is mine so don't even think about it..."Sad to say he passed last Oct and we are still getting over his loss, talk about presence... There is no doubt that my next GSD will be a female, I have not given up on the idea of getting another male (puppy) after we get our female who is a 2+ yr old waiting for me at the breeders... To each there own as they say... Rob

personally, in my experience. Females are easier to train. They seem to retain knowledge easier. In the house, my males follow me as much as the females, but outside my male is off pissing on everything, while my female is glued to me. I'm not saying the male doesn't stay near, but he is not glued.

I do believe males bond better, more often with female handlers and vise versa. I know I prefer male dogs and my boyfriend, females. Best dog I ever owned was female though but I was a child and I think children are protected more, no matter the sex.

When I am on my riding lawn mower, my female is in the heal position the whole time. My male is busy dropping his toy in my next strip of grass. He knows I'm gonna stop, pick it up and throw it.

Throw him a curve ball, run it over next time and laugh at the look on his face! LOL

I have. I just hate chewing up another ball or hitting a kong with my blades.

Thats the other thing about males, my boy marked everything and anything both inside and outside...Got to the point that I had him neutered (he wasn't a stud dog anyway) at age 2 and he stopped marking the house but there wasn't a tree or bush that was spared while on our daily walks...He still treated my wife as if she were his mate I think she got off to the fact that this huge male GSD was always there to protect her if need be... As dominant as he was he never once even looked at me funny as he knew who the real "alpha male" was...Our relationship could be summed up with 1 word...Tolerance... Rob

Penny, please remember to be SURE which one you come home with. You don't know the embarassment of having your "male" dog, George, give birth to GSD/Pekingese puppies in the middle of the night. We just figured he was getting chubby. The nipples should have given it away, I just figured he was getting man-breasts. Of course, the owners of that sneaky little bastard Pekingese are not offering any support at all! The whole situation has been one big headache! We thought it was strange how George would become so cranky, almost bitchy, every month... we just figured he had a bad temper and left him alone with his chocolate for a few days. Well, I think this will be a happy ending after all. Since losing my job at Shotz Brewery I've had to sell french blnomas to make rent. Now, I've got puppies! If anyone would like to purchase a puppy, I've lowered the price to $2400 each. I think it's reasonable since the GSD is Sch3, IPO3, MSK3. The Pekingese I believe is pure bred... but he's missing a kidney. That shouldn't make much of a difference. Oh, and good luck, Penny!

ROFL.....did he produce any progeny with one kidney?
