Opinion on hips/elbows - Page 2

I posted to there and half of them said she was going to come back mild. 0_o
Most of them don't know what they are doing and terrify newbies.
Some do know what they are doing though.

The right hip ( in the x-ray ) is not symmetrical with the left and looks like it may have been injured somehow at one time or another ??? The worst hip sets the OFA grade so good at best and likely fair ... the shape and symmetry of the right hip is a puzzle ... with any luck I am wrong but the difference in the two hips makes me wonder what caused that and it doesn't have to be genetic .. could be an injury as a puppy.  The left hip is good/excellent but the right is fair to good.

If you want an opinion with all of the correct nomenclature I will disappoint but but but ... here goes. The lip of the socket has a different look and shape on the left hip ( in question ). The socket looks a bit thicker and wider with more bone mass yet there seems to be a more abrupt and less well mated femoral head in the socket. The right socket and femoral head fit together much better and the lip of socket as well as the overall coverage of the femoral head by the socket on the right is ideal as far as I can tell. Since the right is near perfect and there is some thickening of the socket on the left with a more abrupt lip transition I am guessing the difference in the two hips is not genetic but due to an injury. The femoral head of the left side is also less well rounded and congruent with the socket as compared to the right. I am guessing the dog had a hip injury of some sort during a period of rapid skeletal growth and the hip grew a bit of new bone to heal the injury at the expense of forming the left hip into as symmetrical a joint as the right. I'm afraid a guess is as good as you will get from anyone. If the dog gets a fair on the left hip and a fair overall as a result it is likely not a result of genetics but of environment. The OFA hip scores can tell you what OFA grade hips your dog has but it can not tell you how they got the hips they have ( genetic or environment or more likely a combination of both ) nor can the OFA predict what OFA grade hips the offspring of your dog will have.
