Abby, I read your posting, and I was choked up. I sympathize with your senseless loss of a good dog and four legged family member. I have been feeding 50% kibble and 50% raw food, but I may have to take a step back and take a hard look at the kibble in their diet. Veronica

Abby, so sorry. I would be despondent if something like that happened to Blitz. I just made him his first batch of homemade food today, he loves it. It's easy to do with just one dog.

I lost a rottie a few years back, I can not remember what food he was on. Out sourcing our food/dogs, is not acceptable. I feed 1/2 RC and 1/2 solid Gold. I do not want to go to RAW. But who is making the food here, small company?

VFH~I read that artticle about the dog food industry. If what it says is true, it's no wonder our animals are succumbing to all of these ailments. That just makes me sick thinking about all the euthenized animals ending up in our pet foods. What were they thinking? The chemicals would disapear? Thankfully I don't feed foods that don't specify the meat type. Still I have my concerns. Looks like we will be changing dog foods AGAIN!

The last thing we need is more regulation. It leads to yet more red tape, rampant spending, and a false sense of security lulling the ignorant public into a coma. Please note the infamous food pyramid that for decades has been leading the unsuspecting public to load up on refined starch while steering clear of essential fatty acids because it gave inaccurate and non specific guidance. Most pet owners feed kibble because the pet food marketing teams have trained them over 3 generations not to trust themselves to prepare whole foods for the pets while pushing feed that is loaded with undigestible filler and meat deemed unfit for human consumption. What we need in pet food as in most products is consumers who care enough to educate themselves and do what they know is best. It is self evident that dogs, like their wild counterparts, are naturally adapted to a diet of fresh whole raw meats as well as the less significant partially digested contents of the digestive tracts of prey animals. We can with relative ease and considerable thrift emulate this diet. Many do. It is merely a question of the courage to go against the grain. Best Wishes, Jonah

Jonah, good post. What do you feed your GSDs?

by jdh on 24 March 2007 - 23:03

I feed Abady Complete Raw together with whole meats and bones, and modest amounts of cooked vegetables. I give Vetri-Science Canine Plus multi-vitamin/ mineral tabs in proportion with the whole meat/bones so that I do not drastically upset the balance. I believe that by feeding in approximately the proportions found in nature, for example, a small chicken w/all giblets, a handful of cooked carrot slices or other vegetable, and occasional grain products, we can safely provide optimal nutrition to our dogs. What do you feed? Best Wishes, Jonah

VomFelsenHof, HOLY COW, I had NO idea, that's not what happens here I assure you. I can not beleive what I read, That just blows me away, I am going to start sending that link to everyone I know. Also I have made the decision to Cook for my dogs once again and with as many as I have now, It will be a task for sure !! But I ain't feeding my dogs no euthanized dogs and cats, I see what animals are put down, Mostly very sick, fevered with injury, PARVO, DISTEMPER, MY God no wonder our dogs are getting sick from these feeds !! This is OUTRAGEOUS !!!

Dehydrated Raw Pet Food: www.thehonestkitchen.com My dogs love this!

Jonah, I have been feeding my GSDs Royal Canin German Shep #24. I supplement with canned food, typically solid gold. So far I have had good results. Thanks for the info. I'll look into Abady.
