Gsdfanatic,
You wrote "They cannot do this if they do not have the confirmation letter that only the one the dogs are chipped under would have access to. This is with Home Again anyway."
Who is "they"? and what is the confirmation letter? I have a dog with Home Again microchip and I don't know anything about a confirmation letter. Maybe I need to re-read my paperwork!
Thanks for the info!!!!

Pearliewog,
If you go on the Home Again website, I believe it is Homeagain.com and try to edit the personal info, it will tell you that you need the original confirmation letter and/or you can call and talk to a representative about changing the info but, I believe they need the original person's info that the dog was first entered under.
I hope this makes sense. It's been a little while.

Pearliwog - wasn't necessarily talking about dual chips, more like, can two people be placed on the same chip data? Isn't there a space for "breeder' and a space for "owner" in the chips database info? I think that is perfectly reasonable as it allows the dog to be traced back to the breeder should the owner not be able to be contacted, meanwhile the owner doesn't walk around feeling as if their dog really doesn't belong to them.

GoldenElk,
I will check tonite and let you know for sure! I think there is more than one contact space but I am not sure what they are labeled.

As was stated, the biggest problem today is there is no standard for the readers. I just received 2 pups from Hungary who are chipped, I know this because I can feel the chip under their skin. I have not been able to find a reader that will read the foreign information though so it is pretty useless.

Someone who works in the "inner workings" of Avid has suggested that they may also start adding a tattoo recognition system as well as a DNA profile (for additional charge of course!) to their microchip system!
I thought this would be great. You could register your dog with microchip, tattoo number and DNA, so no matter how they were identified, it would lead back to you. (Yes, they would start a tattoo database)
Microchipping to the breeder ONLY seems to me that the breeders are untrustworthy of their buyers. You should be able to trust your buyers, or not sell them a dog. I have seen dogs owned by high end kennels that come up missing, when someone forgets to shut a gate, or a dog digs or jumps out of a yard, a dog is stolen, etc. I believe that if a dog is microchipped, it should be done in the buyer's name, not the seller, as first contact. I do think the Seller should be the alternate contact, however. This way, if Buyer moves and forgets to update, the Seller gets a call. :)
