Curious what your vets opinion is?
He should know the rules
You may need to ask him is he experienced with Ofa and advise you what he saw in the ones you posted

we just spent a fortune last month on a pup with HD and ED getting to a vet who knew the minute he took the ex rays what was wrong  39 years of OFA experience in Rockwall Tex makes a difference

I am guessing OFA. Fair

by truthseeker123 on 14 August 2015 - 22:08

I just called him and he said he thought they were going to OFA, which does not require sedation.

He said bring the dog back in and he will take them over again under sedation.

I am going to make sure he positions the knees more to the inside and make sure that the bottom "wings" of the pelvis show the same on each femur.

The vet was recommended by my trainer.

The vet said he thought they were mild displastic.  That is why I am asking for opinions.

I already have another appointment with a different vet lined up to take another set of x-rays at the end of the month for a second opinion, because I REALLY want to breed this bitch since I like her attributes and pedigree!

Wait until you have a better xray. I would agree that the dog appears to be mildly dysplastic on this film, but a better one could make a difference. Did you have her elbows xrayed too?

by adlerbach on 14 August 2015 - 23:08

Right hip will not pass but the dog could be okay for work. I have had far worse radiographs on dogs that went SchH3 many times. All depends on the dog.

by truthseeker123 on 14 August 2015 - 23:08

Yes I did have the elbows done and the vet said the were great!

You might improve the laxity, but not the remodeling. I would save my money. Not a dog I'd want to breed, but I'd work the heck out of it :)

Western Rider

If all went well you could get an A3 if the stars were all in order maybe an A2.  The right hip ( left in the film) is the hold up.

The SV allows the xrays at 12 months BEFORE the major training is started and then joints get the wear and tear on them.  This also allows weaker joints to pass.

I do hips at 13 months send to OFA for prelim and if good sent to SV so that training would not be done on weak joints.

I agree with the vets opinion but ofa could possibly rule fair.
Western Rider is giving the BEST advice I have heard in a long time that a lot of people dismiss and do not think is necessary. I found out , heartbreak , comes when you do not.
I would NOT breed this dog.
.Sorry but the pup we bought last year had two in litter bad hips and not sure why the mother was never ofa ruled but other facts show that the trail led to bad hips and some elbows not even good.
Work your dog and enjoy unless you have a guarantee with the breeder and you want another pup to raise.

This is why we also xray at early age up to 1 yEAR so you know if you are in the GRAY area on hips problems.

You might study the parents of your dog and see how many litters have good hips in them and then evaluate after you get your OFA or SV ratings. DO you have access to the other littermates.

Sometimes when you find out other littermates failed it will shock you into not BREEDING your dog.
