Hired Dog

Here is some reality...if you have a suspended license, if you have one or several warrants out for your arrest and you insist on driving like a dumb ass, do it alone, no dogs, no kids, end of.

If you get arrested, the dog in the car will be dealt with by the county animal control, if you have kids with you, perhaps a relative will come and get them, or, they will be turned over to child protective services which will ensure you another battle to get them back, depending on how bad the sitiuation with the local courts is.

When you get light up, pull over, put BOTH hands on the steering wheel and keep them there. Dealing with the police is not science, its about TWO simple things, your attitude and compliance. Be polite to the officer, if asked for a license, tell the officer what you are about to do, "I am reaching for my wallet, its in the middle console", open it, let him look, then get it. If its in the glove box, DONT DIVE for it, tell the officer and also tell him there is no gun in there. If there is, TELL HIM that and offer for him to get it instead of you, but, follow directions.

A Lot of people have CWP and carry, TELL THE OFFICER if you are one of those people, BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE takes place. Keep your hands at your sides and keep your attitude to yourself. Remember, the officer you are dealing with does not get calls to go places to get props for his great work, his job consists of dealing with mostly assholes who have already broken the law and now, when you as a civilian can no longer deal or want to deal with said asshole, you call the police to do it for you.

Follow directions, to the letter, dont reach for anything you are not told to, dont answer or offer answers to anything you are not asked and remain calm, this is important, the more calm you are, the more calm the officer will be. If you are told you are going to get arrested, dont argue, COMPLY, because one way or the other, you WILL get arrested, its up to YOU on how painful an experience it will be and how many more additional charges you want on top of the reason you are getting arrested.

Again, this is not brain surgery, even though some people make it out to be. Dont have anything stupid in plain sight and give that officer PC to search your car...that rule does not apply if you get arrested.  Contrary to the BS that has been spewed out by several members of this forum who have most likely been butt hurt or think the rules do not apply to them, the men and women in uniform, are there to deal with crap you dont want to deal with and they are humans, just like everyone else, they all have the same wants, needs and desires as you and they all bleed like you.

My dog always travels crated.  Getting him out of the crate, I could

muzzle him without fuss (as he accepts the muzzle well) and I keep

the muzzle where I can easily get at it without needing to search.

Those things occurred to me a long time ago, not rocket science for

others to think that through.  I have been asked by a policeman to

take my dog out of his crate (I had broken down on the motorway,

and the traffic cop was helping me & wanted to make sure neither I

or the dog were trapped in the car while waiting for breakdown

assistance).  Because it was Taz and he luvz everybody, not a problem

that I wasn't carrying a muzzle.   If it had been Vida, I would have been

worried without it handy !

Can't agree more with HD about the legal, polite and sensible ways of

dealing with a police stop, anywhere.

But I have sympathies with Bubba on the questions of police brutality,

use of more than necessary force, good / 'normal' officers and senior

cops covering up for the bad eggs, c'mon its been proved often enough

that it happens;  and treating peoples dogs as targets or punch bags for

their owners follies.

Good replys~ Here's the deal ~ I keep the muzzle next to my seat always~ Should I get pulled over I will apply that muzzle before anything else. It takes no time to stop my vehicle, apply the muzzle, and put Prince in a down. I can do all that before the officer even gets to my side window~ I agree that being crated is the best solution, but presently with my vehicle I don't have that option.  I am honestly least concerned about being pulled over more concerned about getting a flat or something along those lines~ Having a muzzle is a benefit no matter how you look at it~ it can't hurt :))

fwiw Hired dog I do not support cop bashing or the threads that do ~ I have always carried a muzzle with me for reasons specific to Prince and just thought I would share.  :) I am a law abiding  citizen really, but I will be damned before I allow an officer to come to my window without Princes muzzle on~ ;)  He hates people approaching the vehicle and I can not risk him lunging at the officer. Does this make sense?

So do I understand it correcr that Traffic Officers in the US carry guns ? or those who stop you are Police Officers?

Hired Dog

ALL police officers in the USA carry a handgun Ibrahim while on duty. Traffic, patrol, DUI, motors, bikes, K9, every officer carries a gun, by law and they carry one off duty as well. Some Depts require the off duty carry some dont, but all authorize it.

Ruger, I understand and appreciate your concerns, so, for you, here is a little more friendly advice. Do NOT muzzle the dog, simply keep your windows up, open a tiny crack when the officer approaches and offer him the paperwork he asks for. Having your hands moving all over the place in the car while the officer is behind you WILL cause concern when there should be none. Do not alarm him and he wont have a reason to feel alarmed. There is nothing more troubling then seeing a person in the car about to get pulled over, reaching all over the vehicle as the lights come on. If you put a metal "cage" muzzle on the dog and he hits the window hard enough, he may break it, then you have given that officer all the excuse he needs to shoot, please, dont do that. In the end, its your decision to make, I am simply offering some user friendly advice, take care.
