Some cops are creeps .. plenty of dead dogs shot running away in their own home or yard by cops.  Cops will lie to cover for each other.  Even the good cops will lie to cover for the bad ones .. the code of silence or what the justice system calls perjury or obstruction of justice.  A SWAT team shot to death the two Labrador Retrievers of a Mayor in MD inside the Mayor's house as the dogs ran away from them upon illegal armed entry during an idiot drug bust raid based on idiot intelligence .. the cops claimed the two Labs attacked them before they realized that they had invaded the wrong house and that the guy was the Mayor (what idiots) and not some poor black person they could railroad .. otherwise they would have planted some drugs in the house and claimed the invasion as a good bust.  Idiots with guns do idiotic things sometimes.  Cops shoot the dogs very often because they are lazy and because they have a gun.  It's easier for them to shoot the dog than deal with the dog so they kill the dog .. that is the truthful answer.  There are many good cops that do the right thing (which is their job description) but a few of them will kill for little or no reason ( as we have seen in Baltimore ) and also near New Orleans .. see link below .. Dogs are property and cops who shoot unarmed civilians are surely not worried about killing a dog.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/09/02/family-man-shot-while-handcuffed-did-not-commit-suicide/14986733/

Louisiana State Police initially said in a statement that White had shot himself in the back, according to NBC News. However, the coroner's report, obtained first by NBC months later, showed that White was shot in the front just under his right nipple.  So the cops changed their story that he shot himself in the front with his hands handcuffed behind his back!!  The coroner concluded the prisoner was shot in the front and was not shot at close range in the front but he must have found a way to shoot himself from 5-10 feet away in the chest under his nipple while handcuffed with his hands behind his back in the rear of a patrol car after being searched for weapons and handcuffed.

Cops who will shoot an unarmed man handcuffed behind his back in a patrol car will not blink an eye shooting your dog .. killers are killers .. don't try to justify it or make sense of it because those who murder don't have to .. just who they are whether a police thug or a criminal thug .. both the same.  How many dogs killed needlessly by thug cops do you want to see.  Another two below .. one in which a cops shoots dog chained up responding to the wrong address .. another idiot with a gun!!  Youtube link has more than 100 dogs needlessly killed by the police .. some with videos of the dog being killed.

The video camera and cell phone camera has given us a picture of what our police do to innocent humans and dogs and it is not a pretty picture that we give some of these idiots guns and the power to misuse them with no consequences for their actions.

It's true what everyone has said, but that was indeed horrific to watch. Poor dog, brutally destroyed for loving his person. 💔

Ibrihim, had the owner made any move to roll up windows, further secure the dog, etc. he could have been shot instantly. just putting the dog in the car could have been presented as reaching for a weapon and killing him would have been, no doubt, justified.

Cops who do evil should not be cops!!!  We hung Nazi's after WWII for following orders. Sixteen cops were arrested in one NC county this week for drug trafficking .. the tip of the iceberg as other counties in NC have had similar organized crime busts involving local and state police.

ILMD, not to mention most cars require that you put a key in the ignition before you can roll the windows up, then the cops likely would have shot him because the thought he was either trying to escape, or reaching for a gun under the seat/in the centre console.  Sad Smile

Most of the police officers I know are terrific people. Right here we have Gustav, maybe Hired Dog (not sure he's a LEO) and slamdunc who used to be a poster here.  There are probably more I don't know. All officers I would trust with my life and my dog's life. When I worked as a tech we vetted 2 K-9 corps for local departments, a great bunch of guys and gals. It is not right to judge all LEOs by the bad behavior of a few rotten ones. I'm betting that Gustav, Hired Dog, and Slamdunc would love to get the bad ones alone in a dark alley.

The owner of the dog was still the one responsible for his animal. He was looking for the men with guns and authority to do something wrong and he still tried to taunt them. He should have known that his dog could be percieved as a weapon and a threat. He apparently knew he was going to be arrested, he decided to place his dog where the dog could easily escape, maybe that was not an accident, another way to hit the lottery and win money. He could have asked what to do with the dog, the police did not seem to be in a rush and weren't worried about him escaping. I tried to find the video I originally saw, it was the uncut version of what the police put out, you could hear the man and hear the police, it was far more incriminating against him than what the police released.

I agree Blitzen, I have a family member who is LEO and one of the finest people I know. In the end, they are people, some good some bad. And the good ones often cover up for the bad. So we have what we have and it's probably going to get worse.

This is another disgusting thread, showing the disrespect for all those in uniform who serve and protect those who sit here and talk crap about them. More respect lost today for many members of this forum. Of course its much easier to sit on the sidelines and talk shit about something you have never done...

I'll have more respect for the military and the police when they stop protecting the thugs in their midst and clean up their organizations.
