Bwahahaha. Yes, you MUST come to America, but just to visit all us gsd whackos, lol. I'll pitch a tent for you:-) Might even let you put my calf roping saddle on my, now Gray, paint breeding stock horse and throw a leg over him:-)

How is the cutting scene going, what trainers and what studs are big now? I used to lope horses for some top outfits over there in the 80's but got poached by rich people with show jumpers cos I could ride thoroughbreds in an English saddle real good. It was a hoot for a fit 19yo guy from the country.

VK - your dog has efficient, correct action in my very non-professional opinion but the importand thing is that he can travel great distance without tiring.
I have an unrelated question though. Concerning your hounds, I'm guessing they are going after feral cats when they take off into the bush? How do they end up joining you again, do you have to keep calling them while you're riding with your GSD? Also, do the hounds only go after their "target" prey?

Prior to the last 10-15 years of gadgetry there is hundreds of years of open range hunters & herders with no gadgets, how quickly we lose our instincts.
Tbh there is no formula I can give, you have to live it. Selective breeding was measured in life or death outcomes,I will try keep the old ways alive as long as I am able.
The hounds check in occasionally to monitor your direction of travel, they call out, I reply critters follow patterns determined by the lay of the land, the job gets done.
If there is a smash up ultimatly the dogs will get back to the vehicle, there is also limited water in that patch in the vid, the dogs worked the wind toward the water me and gsd took the long way around by track, critters are forced to break cover across the track which in theory the hounds are working parallel to, they will let you know if they want you in there, they move to fast to follow so if they call, they stopped moving.
Injured dogs can be hard to find, the gsd will recover them if they hurt bad.
Sorry if that is vague.

When I do travel next I will be bringing my next dog back with me. Prolly should open a new bank account and start saving for it.

OK, so the hounds and you have a communication method that you can keep track of them and vice versa. I imagine when they are on their prey that they sounds off like typical hounds do, otherwise they are trailing and keeping you in earshot as well. They know that you are heading to the water by previous runs, or is that just their nature to seek water after a run and you know where they'll be at the water source? Good thing the GSD will lead you to an injured dog. I have never worked with hounds but am interested in all breeds purpose-working.
