This is simple, buy an American,is some many nice puppies in the States i just don't get it why people bringing all those puppies from especially former Eastern European countries, beside working lines i would never buy a show line puppy from there, they don't have anything to offer.I am going to many shows in USA including Sieger shows and i never saw anything good from those Countries,What is the reason to import a pet, maybe somebody tell me? We have many nice puppies here in the States they end up in a pet homes because is not enough people interested in showing anymore.yes the domestic pup may cost you little more then those imports, but you get guarantee from reputable breeder,in case something goes wrong with the puppy you have options, with the import what you have, nothing. The ears in 5 months old puppy if they are flappy will stay soft if they ever stand on their own (which i dout it) the only other thing is to put the inserts in an glue them, but do you want to breed to a dog which had originally flappy,or soft ears, because i don't.This is nothing personal, and i hope i will not get hammer for it ,but that's how i feel about it.

Oh, pshaw, old shatterhand, there are just as many lovely, well-bred GSD puppies--of American, European Show or Working Lines, it matters not-- that were bred and whelped here in the US which also end up with one or both ears failing to stand--so 'buying American' gives no greater advantage or guarantee that the pup's ears are going to stand. Even seeing both parents in the fur, and getting a feel of their ear leather, isn't predictive of whether all the pups in any given litter will have both ears remain standing once they're adults.

hexe maybe to you is unpredicted,i assume you are not into show lines,to people who show and breed and fallow the breed have more chances to avoid lots of surprises among them are flappy ears, next time read my post carefully.

shatterhand, I DID read it carefully. It's just that you're wrong, that's all.
Also, I AM very familiar with the Euro show lines, but are you suggesting that the breeders of those lines in Europe don't pay as much attention to traits within the bloodlines as do the breeders here in the US, who are using imported WGSL breeding stock of those same lines?
My first GSD was American show lines with the emphasis on trainability and competitive obedience, the ones who have followed have been split between WGSL and American-line rescues that were likely from American show line ancestors which landed in pet homes with 'hobby' breeders. So yeah, I've got some familiarity with bloodlines of all types, though I'll freely admit that I'm limited when it comes to DDR and Czech working lines. And unless I can see the parents and siblings of both parents of a litter in addition to seeing the sire and dam themselves, it's a 50-50 game of chance as to whether the pups in a given litter will all have standing ears or not. Either they will, or they won't, and sometimes it's not because of genetics, either.

hexe i really doubt it that you understand my point, why import pets when you can get them here in States from Rescue like you did.

shatterhand, this thread is about whether the OP's WGSL pup's ears were going to stand or not, and your post implied that if ONLY the OP had bought a domestically bred and born pup, there would be no question but that their pup's ears would absolutely stand.
I understand your point perfectly well, you wily jackanapes...This was not, and still isn't, a thread regarding the reasons people might choose to import a GSD from Europe when one can purchase GSDs of the same lineage right here in the US--if you'd like to see a discussion of that topic engaged, then why not start such a thread on here and open the discussion, instead of hijacking this one?

hexe i don't think you know what you are talking about, you are a supporter of a bad breeding imports and i have nothing more to say to you.plenty of those imports end up in shelters and rescue.Be more open minded and do some homework and you'll see how those imports from former Eastern Block countries do ? The only exception are working line dogs from Czech Rep. and Slovakia.I imported quite few show line puppies from Eastern European Countries, and i was very specific to those breeders i stated that i want something for breeding, showing, training. And you know what they sent me,puppies with bad bites, missing testicles, extremely shy, sick and many other problems, and i paid top $ for them..All those puppies i had to placed in good pet home not even one i kept. Many of those countries don't request KKl1 or BST and that's what they breed whatever they want because they belong to FCI and they fallow their rules.I know the threat is about hanging ears, but my point again is why import pets, when many nice dogs in shelters are waiting to be rescue instead to be put asleep ???

Start a new thread, shatterhand, and I'll be happy to discuss the subject that's bothering you at greater length. Given that I've never imported a GSD for any reason, I certainly don't 'support' the practice literally, but beyond that, the discussion is off-topic and needs to be it's own thread if you really wish to make your point. Stop being an ass about it, and make your new post on YOUR topic.
