I wasn't there and won't second guess the decisions made by those that were but anyone inclined to do a little research will learn that it is not at all unusual for a police K9 to be deployed into a crawl space or other confined area.

Yeah, and sometimes cops make grave errors in judgment and shoot unarmed citizens and Labrador dog wagging its tail in greeting, mistaken by cop as being aggressive. Just because there is a history of what you claim, doesn't make it desirable or correct. You often take a comment to the extreme and beyond what has been said.

So where is the line?  Should a K9 also not be put through a window into a house or into an attic?  What about sent into a garage?  Should they always be kept on a lead under the handler's control?

Joan, Keith, first, understand that the real life response to these type of situations is very fluid and always depends on what resources are available to the Dept and officers. Sure, under perfect circumstances, SWAT would be available 24/7 and come out and save the day, but, thats not feasible nor a reality. Second, no patrol officer is trained to nor carries smoke grenades or any type of distraction devices, you use whats your best available option at the scene and the one that will cause the least amount of injury to a HUMAN officer.

Me, personally, if I cant see the other side of a 6 foot fence and if I have the option, I will not put my dog over it because what is 6 feet on this side, may be 30 feet on the other, but, like I said, options are not always available and a dead dog is still better than a dead human.

Thank you , hired dog, for clarifying.

No Hired Dog......sorry, but I can't let you get away with this one.  That dog should not be dead. "a dead dog is still better than a dead human" just doesn't cut it.  Period.

The dog is dead. Keith.

The dog suffered, Keith.

The idiot cops sent the dog in to suffer and die, Keith.

The dog didn't have to suffer and die, Keith.

Debating stupidity is stupid, Keith.

Anyone here remember a thread most participated in about 7 or 8 years ago.  It was another unnecessarily killed K9.  We all watched the actual video of the assault and shooting.  I can't remember the dog's name???  Horrible.  Nothing changes.

LMH, "Let me get away with it"? There is nothing to get away with, the dog is indeed dead, a dead dog is still better than a human officer, end of. I am not a "romantic" when it comes to these things, I am a realist and even though I love my dog, I never forget that the reason he is there is to mitigate danger to me and other humans and I also understand that in real life and real time, best options are not always available, however, if you feel this strongly about this, perhaps, if you are ever in that position, you can take the bullet/knife/ax, whatever and  have your dog attend your funeral with your wife/husband and children and let them wonder what you were thinking during that deployment!

by LMH on 28 January 2015 - 17:01

I'm well aware you'd never risk injury to yourself, HD.  Your choice.  Seems I remember some post when you agreed with the police or ACs' actions on a video.  A loose dog or dogs (?) were killed rather than be caught and risk the possibility of injury. That was you that agreed with the killing.  Yes?

And, yes.....I'd probably risk the bite or potential knife threat for my dog.  My choice.  Having said that, I still say the K9 died needlessly.  Your views only encourage idiotic cops to feel doing stupid things can easily be explained away.

BTW.....clicking the LIKE button on Joan's post is idiotically stupid......you're agreeing with her post agreeing to yours???

So, LMH, your position is that no law enforcement K9 should ever be deployed to apprehend a suspect; is that correct?

Hired Dog

by Hired Dog on 28 January 2015 - 17:01

LMH, I make my choices based on my responsibilities in life and those start with my kids. There has never been nor will there ever be a dog worth their security or lives, yes, my choice.

I do not remember the video you speak of nor the thread, if you could find it, it would help. Please, feel free to risk anything you like for your dog, your choice as you said.

I am certain that police officers come in here to check out my views so they can act out on what I say...daily too, however, since you have such warm and fuzzy feelings for LE, next time you need them, please refrain from calling for their assistance, after all, chances are they will act "idiotic" as you say.

Lastly, if you could contact admin and have them install a "you welcome" button, next time, I will press that because my "like" was just that, not that it makes any difference in your life...or maybe it does since you like to nitpick. Have a great day.
