i don't like french ring as much as mondio ring or belgian ring. all of the ring sports are very similar but in french ring the judges don't care that much about the dogs biting behaviour the dogs are jugded more on the dogs entries into the bite (or how fast they get to the bite). so in the french ring lines you will find small lazer speed malinois that alot of times don't weigh over 60lb that don't have the gripping behaviour that is rewarded in schutzhund or belgian ring. none the less if a dog makes it to french ring 3 that dog is definetaly a nice working dog imo. the dogs in belgian/mondio ring are selected more for a "pushing into the helper/decoy big hard full grip" hence the term belgian grip. this type of gripping behaviour is absolutly nesessary if you want to compete in belgian or mondeo ring since the grips carry alot of points. also the belgian ring malinois tend to be a bit larger and stronger built. i personly like the belgian bred malinois for the gripping because i train for schutzhund.
