Two Moons

LOL........@templars,

Sheep come two legged as well as four legged.

It's just an internet forum, what did you expect?

Everything evolves, even superstitions.

Exactly, since I am a Malinois person, I will support that breed, but, other then the apprehension word you got stuck on, ANY other breed can do what this poster says. I retired a female lab as my bomb dog, I have seen goldens work as therapy dogs and just about any breed be a child's playmate...bottom line, the GSD is not the only breed that can do the job.

Agreed.

@hired dog

fair enough.. So it's safe to say the German shepherd and malinois is a versatile breed and not any breed is as versatile

The Malinois IS a working dog, regardless of whats asked of the breed, working wise, the dog will do it. As far as the GSD, when its fanciers understand that "versatile" means WORKING like the breed's founder meant it to be, the breed may once again go back to its glory days.

As far as other breeds being versatile, as long as they can work in whatever capacity they were meant to work in, I think they are all great.

I agree.. There are still some show line malinois breeders out there however so I hope the malinois does not follow suit.  The reason why I say that is I almost bought one until I educated myself on WL and SL.  Mike Ritland, former SEAL, has a book out there as well as some articles and videos that made me believe that a true Working malinois wouldn't be a fit for my home.  I respect the malinois and dutch shepherds.  He basically wrote that they are heavy pipe hitters and make any would be criminal wish they had a "do over".

The Malinois DOES follow - a lot of people already start looking for the "Dutchies" instead, the next breed on the list...

Susie, a dutchie is a stripped malinois and they get bred together all the time.
I dont see the malinois breed being pushed out of the way yet.

At least over here people start to look for the "not stripped" Dutchies for quite a while now, because the Malinois became the "flavor of the day", and there is no more quality but quantity...

Don´t misunderstand me, I really think it´s a shame, as soon as a breed becomes "interesting", it´s lost for several decades, and some are lost forever...
