I've seen several signs of spring in recent weeks. The Canada geese are back, the mourning doves are mating, and the half-loading signs have gone up on the rural roads!
This morning was the most encouraging sign yet. A pair of chipmunks were scampering around my back deck, much to my cat's amusement. I tried to get a picture, but the darn things move like they're high on something... or maybe they're just trying to keep warm as they scamper through the melting snowbanks!

THE ROBINS ARE BACK!!!
I heard the male singing this morning, then I saw both him and his mate when I went out to get my mail! Normally, the males arrive first to stake out their territory, but this year they both showed up at the same time! (Or I've been totally clueless and just haven't noticed...)
Normally, this pair nests somewhere at the front of my house. In previous years, the garage light, the trumpet vine in front of where I park my SUV, and the north kennel run, just behind the trumpet vine have all been nesting sites. One year, they nested on the coach light on the back porch, and I had a lot of fun watching them build the nest and raise their babies. This year, they seem to have chosen the white spruce just to the right of my parking spot.
I hope this doesn't mean I'll be cleaning a lot of bird poop off my SUV... There's a good reason their Latin name is Turdus migratorius!
Here's another sign of spring...my indoor geraniums are blooming like mad! Here are some blossoms that fell off when I was watering them today! Amazing how something so small can lift the spirits!
Oh yeah, three guesses what that greyish-white stuff outside the window is....
