last time I gave him Tripe he got really loose stools.  Maybe too much although I think if I remember right I only gave him 4 ounces.  Will try again, thx to everyone for your help.  Nan

PS:  Know it is supposed to aid in digestion and good for dogs with things like EPI, which he does not have but want the extra calcium/phos. for him just the same.  ???  Thx

I have fed minced green tripe for the last 20+ years. Luckily never had a dog which has had a reaction to it. My latest pup [a border collie] has been fed raw since 11 weeks old. I do feed other types of raw meat too though, lamb, beef, chicken and offal. The main bulk of the raw is green tripe, I order more of that than other meat. The tripe is also fed daily. For a pup I go by the 10% of the puppies weight, split into 4 meals then lessen it and eventually down to 2% of body weight.

The minced chicken which is whole carcasses finely minced, probably contains all the calcium my dogs need.

Thank you spooks, where do you buy your tripe;  was wondering if my source maybe got some bad stuff...  hopefully not.  Wow for your puppy you go 10% of the body weight;  I use 2% for my adults and probably only about 3 to 4% for the puppy,  think I will increase his amount to 5%;  I could see 10% for a border collie though, they probably run in off sitting still.  Thx for the info,  Nan

Start with really small amounts, and never out of the fridge.
There are dogs, that can´t digest tribe well, but they are few and far between.
All the best,
Susie

My Border Collie get loose stools from it.  I haven't used it in a while.  Want to try again in a small portion.  Could never use as a main protein source though way too rich.

I also had the problem that after it upset her tummy when I tried to feed it again she wouldn't touch it.  She knew it made her sick and was having no parts of it.  Now to try and sneak a little back in, She's a smart one so we shall see.

I used to have a picky male that would do that Lyn;  if something did not work for  him he would NEVER touch it again;  was skinny as a rail and as he aged that picky problem got worse and all I could figure is that very few things worked well for his digestive track;  poor guy.  Sometimes they are smarter than we are.  When a dog tells me something like that now, believe me I listen.  They are so smart...  Amazingly so...  Maybe he does not need it at all now that I think about it.  We will see.  Thx  Nan

@ Nans gsd I am in the UK so don't know if that is of help to you for a supplier.

Last two pups I have had and skinny/overweight foster dogs/pups, I have used this calculator... http://www.raw4dogs.com/calculate.htm

My BC isn't as fussy as she used to be.  Overall a pretty good eater.  She loves the meaty bones (duck necks, and chicken necks)  If she had her way that's all she would eat.  So I mix them in with her meat mixes.

I'm guessing your pup is getting loose stools from eating tripe? It's likely the fat content in the tripe- some tripe providers hand trim the fat and other providers leave all the fat in. Hand trimmed tripe is usually more expensive than the "fatty" tripe. Bosco gets loose stool from "fatty" tripe so I feed about 1/2 pound at a time with a bony meal. When we lived in SW Ontario, I bought hand trimmed tripe in bulk from a provider and Bosco could eat over a pound without having loose stool. I prefer the whole tripe sections to ground (really good for cleaning teeth since it's so rubbery) but it can be difficult to find a provider.
