To OP, sometimes forum members get upset when first 1-2 gens do not have known hip status along with titles, ie they are coasting on the reputation of their 3-5 gen dogs. Yet if you have titles, some will point out they mean squat. My suggestion is to at the least check out the hips and elbows.

Southern Girl
I would do things altogether different then you. I would start with a dog that could do what I want him to do. But that being said it is always a crap shoot on puppies but that is the chance you take if a puppy is where you want to start.
I will use me as an example: I bought a Bomber puppy and the agreement with Parrish Evans is the end results are I get a dog that I want. So what that means, is if my puppy Callie does not turn out to be what I want I take her back and get another until I get what I want. Now I do not fall in love with every dog I spend time with so it is easier for me then with most but for me the end results will be the "right bitch" for my breeding program.
If I were the breeder of these two dogs I would have seen a crap load of quality and believe in the breeding, BUT I am in it for the betterment of the breed. So I would place every puppy in capable hands (at no cost) to see and prove what they are. I have a puppy from a breeder on this form that was send me for the only cost of the shipping for the same reason. I have no faith in puppies only hope.
I am not trying to open a can of worms here but, there is not a puppy in the world worth $50.00 unless it turns out to be a dog of value. I have seen great dogs produce shit and I have seen fair dogs produce good dogs. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SHIT DOGS PRODUCE GREAT DOGS. So if I an going to buy a puppy it will be out of the best dogs I can find. I would be of the opinion this is a test breeding and if you want to be a part of the test go for it.
As for a 'rescue dog" not me. Just my opinion. Good luck to you and happy training.

I would have to see the dogs work to make a decision. Pedigree wise, OK, but that is only a part of the puzzle.
