Questions on hips and elbows - Page 2

I'm saying they'd go OFA Fair.

Early neutering didn't help any of those things, but I've heard of similar issues (allergies, etc.) w/similarly bred dogs. 

So looking at the xrays, it's the opaque areas that indicate DJD?  What exactly are those opaque areas?  Is this just your basic genetic dysplasia, or something else?

Here is Bravo at about 7 months.  This would have been before he was neutered.  You can see that left elbow is already limited in flexibility.

The "extra" areas that seem to grow out of the bones (you can compare clean elbows next to ones that aren't to see these "extra" spots) are what shows the DJD.  DJD happens over time and it's likely at 7 months of age it wouldn't have shown on x-ray yet, but the process still would.  A specialist may be able to point out the process that caused it from these x-rays, but I can't.  It is possible early surgery could have given him back some function.  Sometimes DJD is not caused by processes (instead by accidents or injuries that cause damage to or around the joint, excessive wear and tare, etc.), but in your case I'd definitely think a process lead to this.  Thanks for sharing!
