I think anything that will increase the chances of getting your pet returned is worthwhile, all my dogs are microchipped, wear ID tags on their collars, and all but 1 "newbie" are tattoed

okay, thank you all for your replies. fluffy was a medium to large standard poodle. when she went missing she had her rabies and another nametag on as well as being well known in the area since my ex walked her with him everywhere. it was also a high crime area. local animal control was familiar with her as i lost her once before and she was scanned then i was called. i have not notified the chip company....will do. her personality was very friendly. she was getting pretty shaggy when she disappeared so i would not say she was cute but she always cleaned up good when clipped and was a purebred. she was spayed....so at least i know she isn't being used for puppies. my guess is someone just wanted to keep her. i have continued microchipping all my new dogs. the only dog i have not chipped is my 6 year old gsd. she came ear tattoed.....so i decided not to chip her. honestly though, most of my current dogs are very unlikely to go missing....the chi's do not particularly care for strangers, even the 3 month old male would rather sit on the steps then run to someone talking to him. the 2 younger gsd's also do not care for strangers hanging around the property but i have them all chipped anyway. i appreciate all your input.
