I only have this to say and am not throwing darts at anyone but I think that if everyone on this board were to be 100% honest it would be the same with all of us. As many breeders that are out there claiming to better the breed and as many years as all have been claiming to better the breed then I think anyone can buy a pair of dogs now and should be able to breed if they want and have no worries. This is not something that has just started, it has been going on for many, many years. Just my opinion whether it means anything or not. I get sick of reading all this crap about back yard breeders and others who think that God has appointed them to be something special. If we have been around this breed for many years, any of us should know not to breed dogs with serious conformation faults, HD, ED etc.

I agree with SGBH all the way , lets all work for a healthier breed and encourage other people that want to breed to do the same, and get info into hands of the public of the intent to want to keep the GSD the highest possible Standard of health and working ability of an intelligent protector with a fur coat and huggable.....

i think sometimes you can throw darts. too many "back yard breeders" don't really care about the breed (whatever the breed). their dog is sooo pretty or sweet or whatever...they havent had their dogs tested for any thing. i don't think you have to be a huge operation to be good either. the ideal should be to breed the best possible gsd. AND to put them with the best possible owners! these are wonderful dogs and should be given to people who understand what the dogs need! these dogs are smart and active and funny and loyal and protective and.... geez, you know. "back yard breeders" don't try to put a dog with the right family or offer training and advice. they get the cash and say "bye-bye". just ask the rescue groups. improving the breed physically should just be the first step. make as sure as possible that these great dogs are w/the right people.

Here here Yellowrose !! and Stephen Excellent post ! I too think the Health and Temperament of the GSD are two of the most important things that we need to be caring for when breeding, Sound dogs of Stable Temperament ! Great Posts everyone really, I like to see everyone agreeing on things !! :-)
