Sun I knew as soon as I looked at that dog he had Color Guard

Vonissk, God, NO! Please re-read my post! I don't care for Jack at ALL!  WAY WAY too much angulation, and a very steep croup!  It's Madeb's Fury I like. He's a mix of German and American lines, with von Zellwaldrand on the top and  Eko-Lan and Kenlyn on the bottom. I was not surprised to find Dallas back there in the 4th generation!

I didn't post a direct link to his info on the database because the picture on the Loretto website is much better than the one here:

Other than his male parts showing, he's too bitchy in type for me;  overstacked;  but probably campaigned to the hilt;  owners finished his championship and went on to get working titles.  I say yeah to that, you cannot always show/compete in working at the same time as ideal weights are sometimes different and of course location/weather/for tracking/working/herding/etc. can be hideous to try and compete in.  Traveling for all can also be very time consuming and expensive.  In conformation if you do not stay with showing and the judges don't read your name show after show after show winning BOB/better yet BIS you loose ground.  Also, it is extremely hard on the dog to show every weekend then try to work at the same time.  Really could be impossible at times.  Nan

There are a fair number of ASL dogs with herding, therapy, OB,  and other performance titles these days. Not many are also AKC CH's because few of those breeders care about doing both, not because the dogs are not capable.

This dog is typical of the males that were being shown in some area of the country in the 80's. In the AKC world type can vary quite a bit from one section of the country to the next.  I've seen a movement photo of him and he looks very good, uses himself well and exhibits a lot more reach than one would expect by looking at this still photo.  The deciding factor is how did he produce and the answer seems to be - better than himself which is every breeder's goal, right? The herding title and his CH are icing on the cake.

Well Sun honestly I wondered about that. But I did go look at the other dog and yes he is very nice. I am going to share their site with Bec.
Blitzen you have nailed the whole thing about this dog. He does move well--some things that have been said I disagree with and some I agree with. His son has been CHIC certified and passed every health test known to man. Also this sire was long lived and a member of the 13 club. The other thing in doing a breeding--IMO--you have to have some kind of good relationship with the stud owner--doesn't mean you have to be best friends. I like this lady very much--we share a lot of similar ideas and beliefs--one thing I like about her is unlike most show breeders she doesn't want her pups to just go to conformation homes--she wants them doing things--not because it adds to her "resume" but because they need to do things. In other words it's not all about money to her.
I've been looking for a stud dog for over 18 months now. I had something super picked out but I guess the time and distance isn't going to work out. Because my girl is co owned, once upon a time we agreed that I could do whatever I wanted but she would be bred to an Am sl at least once and one she approved of. For all the sl I have seen this is what I personally like the best. I think the sire is a very handsome dog. Sure he;s not perfect but where is a perfect dog, of any lines? Also we go back to knowing the lines. Bec knows these lines and not just reading the review either. She knew a lot of these dogs personally and knew their good and bad points and what threw what. To me that is important. So maybe it will be a mistake but from some of what else I've seen out there--of all flavors--I think this will be the best way to go. We'll see.......................
