Nicci I mean "typo", I have a blk female going back to Orthos Tiekerhook sable, bred to Schexeiders"" Tessie a Black famale and of course Orthos's Mom Wendy Tiekerhook had a black Mom Beauty v Tiekerhook...the sable is a key to the production of Blacks and of course, the gene recessive has to be held by one of the involved...I have a male out of Lava v Korbelbach, who goes back to Natz v Arolser Holz, which reads GyBrB in color?????? and Lava is Sable. On the Black girls other maternal side is Pascha Von Raben Flugel also Black female....She had a black son when bred to a blk/red male Asko von Ruben Flugel ....If I breed My blk female to Lava's son Bear I might get a blk pup....lots of reading and studying.......there's a lot more to just breeding two dogs ..keep doing ur homework...long study,,,,and I havent been doing this but 9 years so Im just new at all this.......Bear is red sable....and his Father was Kanto v Monteforthalle, Blk/rd......to get to a blk pup....????

Thanks D.H. for the information. Your explanation makes a lot of sense as to why there are currently no solid blacks in the show ring. And as ALPHAPUP noted, thanks to the rest of the folks for the bit of GSD history as well.

by D.H. on 14 January 2007 - 05:01

yellowrose you are referring to working line dogs, or dogs that are mostly working line...

by D.H. on 14 January 2007 - 05:01

not that there is anything wrong with that... working line dogs can be beautiful too. Maybe time to squeeze in a shameless plug for my fav black male and house mate Santos vom Gleisdreieck. He is in the database.

Isn't Gringo part working lines? I remember talking to a breeder when I was younger almost seven years ago, and she was getting a black puppy out of him. Don't know if that helps as I never got the name of the pup and lost contact with her afterwards.
